The ball backing is closed in the back so it protects you and your children's ear from the post poking out. This is an example of our ball backing, it is also made up of solid yellow gold just as any other parts of the earrings. It is not plated with any other material as it is not necessary with our beautiful solid 14k yellow gold. Our post size is 7.5 mm long and as you can see in the example, it is threaded into the backing, there's no poking, hard to detach, secured.
