  • DOES NOT FIT
does not fit the valve index cable, let alone the lighthouse
Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2025 by a person

  • I don't know what this adapter is for, but it's certainly not the Index ...
Need to power an Index or Lighthouse? Look elsewhere. I can confirm with 100% certainty that this will NOT fit any VR product I have access to: --Valve Index Headset tri-cable --Valve-branded Lighthouse 2.0 --HTC-branded Lighthouse 2.0 --HTC-branded Lighthouse 1.0 --HTC VIVE Linkbox --HTC VIVE Pro Linkbox I don't understand how this product made it through a factory line with such a fundamental error ... I only went through the trouble of checking essentially every single piece of Steam VR hardware every made because I can't wrap my head around this and kinda want to know what this is actually for. But wait, there's more! Even if you were to modify this thing (hypothetically ... don't do it) it still wouldn't work for the Index headset itself because it requires 12V @ 2.5A (30 watts); the specs sticker on this shows 12V @ 2A (24 watts). If I were to say one positive thing here, it would be that I'm relieved they undershot the power delivery, otherwise anyone who tried to get this thing working with some sort of barrel jack adapter could possibly end up with a high-tech paperweight since the Index is iffy on sipping power from higher-amp wall warts. This adapter isn't worthy of a review this long, but YOU are, so if you're confused about how to get your Index or VIVE powered up read on for a cheat sheet you can use after clicking "back to search results": --The HTC Lighthouse 1.0 and the Lighthouse 2.0 (regardless of whether it's HTC or Valve branded) use a 5.5mm*2.1mm center positive barrel jack. The outer diameter (5.5mm) has some give, but the inner diameter does not. a) Lighthouse 1.0 = 12V @ 2A b) Lighthouse 2.0 = 12V @ 833mA OR 12V @ 1A (there are multiple revisions). **Note: It is perfectly OK to use 1.0 adapters to power a 2.0, however, a 2.0 adapter will not supply enough power to a 1.0 Lighthouse. My advice: Get a right-sized 2A and be done with it. --The linkbox for headsets in the VIVE line (whether Pro, Pro 2, Pro Eye or original) use a 3.5mm*1.35mm center positive barrel connector (OD has some wiggle room, the inner diameter is absolute) and require 12V @ 1.5A (18 watts). Once again, that's a minimum, so it's fine if you find an adapter that that's the right size but more amperage because the linkbox has the smarts to only draw what it needs. --The Valve Index headset requires a 3.5mm*1.1mm center positive barrel connector (barely any OD wiggle room on this one) delivering 12V @ 2.5A (30 watts). I would not advise going higher than 2.5A since even though the Index has the ability to "sip" power from a higher amp adapter, it's known to gulp from time to time ... yes, they are anecdotal reports, yada yada. Still, if you're shopping for a new adapter anyway, might as well get right one. That reminds me: HAVE I MENTIONED YET THAT THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT ONE???? Yes? Well, I'm going to do it again anyway: 🚨⚠️☢️THIS👏DOES👏NOT👏WORK☢️⚠️🚨 ... show more
