"This is the 2nd lathe I have used. The other is a name brand. It arrived in good shape and was a simple setup. The instructions were minimal and I had to learn a few things on my own. More on that later. The motor is quiet as are the rotating parts. The variable speed is very useful and offers a pretty wide range of speeds. I don't have a way of testing it but the RPMs seemed pretty accurate. I have only done a few test projects but I feel pretty confident that the machine will not be my limiting factor at least for a while. I emailed the seller with a question and they got right back to me with the simple answer I was looking for. That is a real plus. Here are some things I learned that might be helpful to you; 1 The dimensions are 30 inches long x 9 inches deep x 16.5 inches high for the lathe itself 2 The power cord is 6 feet (3M) long 3 You will need a 8MM allen wrench 4 My machine came set to its highest RPM setting, you may want to adjust the belt before you test the machine 5 The process for adjusting the belt didn't match the instructions. You loosen (and later tighten) the screw holding the motor/drive pulley in place by pulling out the adjustment handle, twisting it to where you want it, push it back in, then turn the handle - rinse and repeat 6 Sand the metal surfaces that slide on each other with something like 280 grit paper then apply some paste wax. Do this for the rails and the bottom of the tool rest and tail stock. 7 The bore on the headstock for a chuck 1 inch with 8 TPI 8 The tail stock takes a MT2 arbor taper The reason I can't give this unit 5 stars is the price. At the time I got mine it costs quite a bit more than the name brand models with similar features and often with addition accessories. As we know prices fluctuate so I will leave the value proposition up to you" ... show more
