(UPDATE BELOW) This anchor light is decent but not great. A very good thing about this light compared to others that look nearly identical is that is offers a removable lens with a replaceable bulb....however the LED bulb it comes with is PROPRIETARY and a NON-STANDARD bulb. The bulb base looks very familiar to anyone that's used to automotive bulbs. It has a model "1156" base. An 1156 base will have the two bayonet guide pins equal distance from the base. However 1156 bulbs are bulbs that contain a single filament (on the incandescent version) used for backup lights, brake only lights, directional only lights or any other use where a single brightness bulb is used. Also the 1156 bulb only as a single contact on the bottom of the bulb that matches up with the 1156 socket. The 1157 model bulb on the other hand has two conductors at it's base and is used for any application that requires two brightness levels. Such as a directional light that also functions as a marker light or a tail light that also functions as a brake light. Also the 1157 bulb has two bayonet guide pins that are offset from one another. One being a longer distance from the other when compared to the base of the bulb. HOWEVER, the bulb that comes with this light is not standard at all. Although the base of this bulb looks identical to an 1156 bulb with the guide pegs equal distance from the base of the bulb, THIS bulb has two contacts at the base which is what an 1157 model bulb has. These two contacts are both positive and the metal base is the negative. They use a non-standard bulb in a non-standard socket. The light itself contains a PLASTIC, non-conductive socket (lamp holder) so they use one contact on the bulbs base for positive and one for negative. This is a problem and I feel like a very bad design choice, because it means you can't buy the bulb anywhere except from them. There is no reason why this was done as the 1156 and 1157 bulbs have been standards since the 50's. So if you want to change the color of the bulb, replace the one it comes with, with a replacement you will not be able to go to an automotive, or any store that sells standard replacement automotive bulbs because if you install a "normal" 1156 type of bulb (LED or incandescent) in this lights lamp holder it will actually short out the two conductors in the lamp holder, blowing a fuse (if there is one) on your application. There is no reason for this design other than to force the user to purchase these proprietary bulbs from them and only them. Update: as of July 15th I received a message from the manufacturing offering me a full refund and an apology! This alone is a very very rare thing and I thanked them for offering the refund and I feel like I own THEM an apology not the other way around. Although I was in the automotive electrical industry for well over 11 years I've never seen this type of a bulb and thought this was a proprietary bulb. It turns out I was wrong. The bulb model, as provided by the manufacturer is a BA15D. It's available in several different temperatures from 2700K up to about 6500K and is also offered in different colors as well. Red, Amber, white, etc. Since I had no intention on using this lamp for the stern of a boat I wanted to change the bulb color but that's when I ran into the lack of compatibility with what I thought was an 1156 bulb. This lamp assembly is being used for a portable, made permanent generator to indicate when the grid power has been restored. This light along will flash to show grid power has been restored but this along with a audible chime/buzzer that only sounds for 15 seconds really does eliminate running the generator for hours after the grid power has been restored. Now that I know this bulb isn't proprietary, I'll be purchasing this model bulb on red to complete my generator installation. I give full credit to the manufacturer for not only offering a full refund (which I will not take due to their professional and honest message) but for also setting me straight on the bulb type that use on this model light. Keep in mind guys, typically LED stern light don't usually offer a removable lens or replaceable light so this light is rather rear is is built well for the purpose. Thank you to the manufacturer for taking the time to send me a private message after my review. Had they not done this I wouldn't have known about this bulb type and it's availability. ... show more
