Description

Grab your telescope and explore the night sky!Over 200 years ago, the French comet hunter Charles Messier (pronounced Messy-ay) published a list of fuzzy, comet-like objects he saw through his telescope. While to him they were a nuisance, we know them now to be star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies! Modern astronomers later expanded his list from 103 to 110 objects―and they're some of the finest celestial sights to explore with your backyard telescope, for both stargazing beginners and those ready to move past the moon and planets.110 Things to See with a Telescope is your complete guide to seeing each deep-sky object on Messier's list, with features such as:A star map for each target, with written directions for how to find it by star hopping"Eyepiece view" images to confirm what you're seeingTips for observation from two veteran stargazersAn observation log so you can track your progressA recommended viewing order for the objectsAnd more!Enjoy the night sky through a whole new lens. With this book and a telescope you can find, view, and record your observations of the 110 most popular stargazing targets. Read more

  • Excellent
Excellent book, loved how it's categorized. Very descriptive.

  • Ease of use in actually getting to know/ learning the nighttime sky.
Excellent Book! As an amateur astronomer (backyard variety), finding particular stars and other deep-sky objects can be completely intimidating. This book shows, believe it or not, 110 different objects to look for in the night sky. Sure there are "Go- To" computerized scopes that cost an arm & a leg, but it is so much more satisfying to actually learn the night sky for yourself! Save yourself thousands by getting a good Dobsonian telescope & this book.... ... show more

  • Amateur astronomer necessity!
This book is perfect for any amateur astronomer. The first section of the book begins with a basic introduction to astronomy. The rest of the book is devoted to Charles Messier list categorized by season. Each page is devoted to a specific target with an accompanying description, star chart, and place to write notes. I can’t wait to get started!!! ... show more

  • Start with this!
After coming to the USA, I finally got time and the opportunity to work on my hobbies. I started learning about the sky. With a Science background, I knew a few things, but I wanted to start from scratch. I found author's YouTube channel; his dumbproof explanation in that video helped me a lot. Watch his few videos and buy this book. He referred and gave references in his videos. WATCH AUTHOR'S YOUTUBE THEN BUY THIS AMAZING BOOK! ... show more

  • I like the book so far.
Seem to be a nice book. Have not used it as of yet just waiting on better skies.

  • Very Approachable Astronomy Book
Very well written with no assumptions made by the author. The intro is so well-paced and content-driven that it begs the reader to continue. Of all the stargazing books I've opened this showed the most promise from page 1....I highly recommend it.

  • Guide to the Messier objects
The 110 things to see are, of course, the Messier objects. I've owned Messier-oriented skygazing books before, but this new one is far more useful as an actual handbook to plan with and take to the field to observe with. The background of the book is an observing society that certifies hobbyists who have viewed all the M-objects. However, that entire aspect is entirely optional and easily ignored. ... show more

  • Still Using This Book After 2 Years!
I bought this book 2 years ago, and I'm just now leaving a review. It's mostly in gratitude to the author for his great writing style for both new and intermediate stargazers! I bought the hardcover edition, and I couldn't be happier with it. John is a great writer and YouTuber as well. He does a great job of explaining things, and makes them fun! ... show more
