I absolutely love a good manicure, but what I don’t love is spending $70+ on nails that only last a month. So, I decided to save my money and start doing my own gel manicures at home! That’s where these plastic nail swatches come in—total game changer! I swatched all my gel polishes (and regular lacquers) on these little plastic pieces, and now I have a handy ring that lets me easily visualize all the colors I own. Okay, so I ordered 2 sets of them. I wasn't expecting to get two separate packages of them. The quality of them is actually quite nice though! They are thick, clear, and I believe of a resin/plastic to them. For what I got, they were cost efficient, and the ring that they have to hold them is decent quality. For 150 of them, I ordered two of them, but ended up with a double package which now I have about 900 of these things, so I'm not sure what to make of it. The application of these things isn't bad, as they do what they're supposed to do. Adding the nail polish color to them isn't bad since it gives me a good idea, and the size of them tends to give a good idea as to what they'll look like on my nails since they are about how short I keep my nails (usually on the shorter side, so these work). Just make sure that if you get this product, you only order 1 set, because chances are, you'll end up with 3.

Although I currently have fewer than 50 polishes, I bought the larger pack after reading many reviews about sticks arriving broken. I also wanted more than 2 rings. Delivery was perfect, with zero broken sticks. I used a cheap LA Colors base/top coat rather than use up my more expensive base coat and QDTC. Did base coat/2 coats of color/top coat and let the sticks dry for at least 12 hours before letting them touch each other. A few colors need 3 coats, which I noted on their stick label. Used Dymo label maker and clear label tape; the label tape is a little wider than the sticks so I did have to trim one side of the tape. It took me a total of about 2.5 hours over 2 evenings to complete about 40 swatch sticks and labels. The process was helpful to identify polishes that I can use in one coat for French manicures. I marked those bottles with painters tape and did separate swatch sticks with the name of the polish “x1” to show that option. I also tagged the polishes that need to be thinned. A lot of my polishes are fairly sheer and the difference between 1 coat vs 2 coats is pretty significant. I realized during the swatch process how many shades I’d been avoiding because when I did a 1-coat test swatch on my nail it did not look good. I also discovered a “new” fall shade I’ve been shopping for is already in my collection! The one thing that did not work great for me: I had planned to do swatches showing various French manicure combos, but I have struggled a bit to get those swatch sticks looking good. I push my nail tip into a jelly stamper to do French tips and that does not work well on the swatch sticks. That is a user problem, though; not a product issue. Rather than group swatches by color only, I grouped mine on 2 rings by fall/winter shades and spring/summer shades. Because I have so many similar-but-slightly different reds, for example, it helps me separate them by season. I’m very happy with the purchase. I can already see that I will be using more of my colors and doing a lot less damage to my nails than when I was trying to swatch on-nail and then remove with acetone. The upfront swatching time will save me time and make manicures more fun.
