I bought these for a set of four chairs that I bought from an estate sale. After cleaning, sanding, and painting, I wasn't going to let these little plastic inserts defeat me. I followed some different recommendations from other buyers, ( soaked them in hot water, tapped them on one side,etc) and still some would not go in. So I filed off some of the side nobs and that worked. They are still very tight and hopefully they don't fall out. I would have given them 5 stars except for the difficulty in installing. They were exactly what I needed and wouldn't have known where else to get them.

I ground down the edge around the perimeter slightly to add a better taper. Then a tap with a rubber hammer set them in place easily. A great project.

I bought these for wrought iron furniture that I have had for many years. This year I am finally repainting them and when turning them over I noticed a few of the inserts missing or broken so I ordered these. I kept thinking that over the years the manifacturing probably changed but if anything these seem stronger than the originals. One word of caution: on a chair you will need to buy enough to replace all four legs (even if some are still good) in order to keep your chairs level because these new ones raise the furniture up just a little. And yes you have to use a rubber mallet to get them on but they seem to be a good product and not cheaply made.

horrible item. correct size, yet very difficult to install, used a mallet as per instructions, used a hammer, used a hot iron, trying to melt the sides of the plastic cap and see if it would go in, with no results. all i did was hurt my fingers and nail.
