This "medieval" shirt appears reasonably authentic, except for the plastic buttons on the cuffs and above the elbows (to hold the sleeves in a folded up position?). Bone or wooden buttons would have been more medieval, but that's a minor detail. The stitching and fit are fine. I ordered a large size, as usual, and it fits me perfectly. The shirt has a slightly rough feel, which is rather pleasant. It may become softer with repeated washings. The cotton fabric is thin, cool and comfortable for summer wear. I don't expect that it would hold up well if used for strenuous activities, but it's fine as a costume shirt or for casual wear. ... show more

Everything changed when I put this little number on. Just an up in comer in a vassel state, thriving, Leather braces on, with a mean leather belt around the waist. I got this shirt both for the occasional Ren Fair visit and for the times I'm teaching Shakespeare to my students and want to jazz up the lesson a bit. This shirt fits well and looks fairly "authentic" with a rough weave and lace-up style, at least as we costume medieval people these days. I've paired this with a simple black kilt and it fits the look pretty well. The shirt has generously lengthed sleeves and a torso, with roll-up sleeves and a button/strap option to keep the sleeves rolled (pretty sure this isn't "authentic"). It fits well for my medium frame and is surprisingly breathable, even if you are wearing this on a warmer day. The material is thick enough to give you some warmth during crisper days, too.
