My husband and I have been snowshoeing for fifty years, but at 77, we find we can't break trail the way we used to, and the older bindings and the full-size snowshoes are too cumbersome. Over the years we've downsized from the old wooden Bean snowshoes, through the Tubbs 36-inch shoes, and after much research and try-ons, we settled on these Sherpas. We've used them for a year now and are very pleased. They're short enough and light but still track well through half a foot or more of new snow. The crampons grip well on hills or crust, and the bindings are amazingly easy to use. We did find we had to use thin wire or twist-ties to clamp the heel strap back on itself, otherwise the small metal tongue will pop out of the adjustment hole. In cold and and snow, having the heel strap loosen was an issue, but wiring it tight was the solution. ... show more

Bought these to use for a trip to Jackson Hole WY. Had perfect snowfall the day before, and used these shoes for the first time. They were pretty easy to get on - the 4 star because the heel strap is a bit of a struggle to buckle in - I wore my Sorel snow boots, which are quite hefty, and had no issue with them fitting into the straps over the top of the boot. LOVE the color of these :) I bought the 'package' so came with hiking poles - they worked very well, were easy to extend, etc. I already had hiking poles, but these worked well, also - as well as being aesthetically pleasing because they matched the shoes ;) Overall, a great buy for me! I've used them 2x following this trip - once in powder snow that was ~4 ft deep. No problems, other than having to work harder to get my feet up and out of the snow! I have used these during the tapping season in Vermont working on mostly side slope, so very abusive to bindings. So Far so GOOD! I have come out of the bindings a couple of times, I don't think I had the heel strap up far enough and I have been working in very deep snow. I really like the ratchet straps - easy on and easy off. Great for all kinds of snow, 36in especially great for light pack snow with heavier load. Performed well uphill though after seeing what some hiking companions had I would recomment something with a heal support so you arent straining your calf. While these are good for any snow I have upgraded to a different style in a smaller size for heavy pack snow and uphill snowshoeing. ... show more
