  • Fantastic Airbrush and Compressor!
Color: Black
I've been an airbrush artist for over 40 years and I've used and tested a LOT of airbrushes in that time-some were great and some were crap. Today I received the XDOVET Upgraded 32PSI Airbrush Kit. I wanted to evaluate the compressor and the included airbrush. My fiancé wants to have a basic airbrush for doll and figure painting. I wanted to run this thing through some various tests to see if it would work for her. She wanted a small, easy to use compressor and airbrush that wouldn't take up a lot of room and wouldn't make a lot of noise. I thought this unit might be perfect for her, so I ordered the XDOVET. I got it one day after ordering it. I was first very impressed with the packaging. It arrived in a large, black box with the words Next Box along with the Xdovet logo. The lid is held shut with magnets, not a cheap plastic box. Inside were the compressor, a type C USB cord for charging, a six foot airbrush hose, an airbrush cleaning kit, a a plastic eye dropper and a small wrench (or 'spanner' for my British friends) to remove and clean the nozzle. There is also a rather large instruction pamphlet. First, the airbrush. When you pick it up, it feels different than the standard low-cost airbrushes on the market. It has a little more weight and looks and back end is more sculpted than usual; feels nice. The trigger is back from the paint cup far enough to make much easier to control. It just feels good in my hand. It comes with a .4mm needle and nozzle. I decided to test it right out of the box with no adjustments first. I looked at the needle with a microscope and it isn't bad. It was a little smoother than most of the units I've evaluated. The first paint I put through it was some Liquitex Muted Green Acrylic Ink. I was able to do a large spray about 2 to 3 inches wide and could get close and make a clean, thin line about 2mm wide, which isn't bad. There was a little spitting when I worked really close, but I was running it at its highest pressure, so that was expected. I turned the compressor down to its lowest setting and it helped a lot. But I knew it could do better. I then removed the needle and nozzle and gave them both a good polishing with various diamond lapping pastes and finished with Flitz metal polish. I used it again with the same paint the results were like night and day! I could make a controlled thin line less than 1mm wide. There was no spitting or spidering. After polishing, this is a fantastic airbrush that works as well as the much more expensive Paasche brushes I use. Seriously, it is an impressive little airbrush. I've run both acrylic and lacquer paints as well as watercolor paint and black ink through it with no problems. The paint cup is removable which really helps when cleaning. Included are 4 different cups- a CC Capacity Cup, a 6CC cup, a 12CC Cup and a large 24CC Capacity Cup. You could also just remove the cup and drip paint right into the brush, which is perfect for fingernail or doll artists. I keep the 2cc cup on the airbrush; it's just the way I paint. Now, on to the Compressor. The unit itself is quite small, about 2.5x3.5x1.5 inches. It weighs right about 9oz. It has touch switches to turn on the power and adjust the air pressure. It took me awhile to realize that I needed to hold my finger on the lower left area to have the unit turn on. The buttons then light up; the power button on the left, the air pressure button on the right and an indicator of the pressure level you are using and the battery level. There is a recharging port (type C USB cable needed and included) and it only takes about 20 minutes to charge. The ad says you get about 30 minutes of continuous work before needing charging. I've found that in a real-world setting, it can last up to an hour, because I'm not spraying constantly. If you don't want to recharge it every 30 minutes, it will work constantly if you keep it plugged in to a charger (not included.) I just left it plugged in and used it for a couple hours with no problems. It does continue to recharge even if you use it while plugged in. There are 4 different air pressure levels. I tested it with an air pressure gauge and got a pretty accurate 20, 26, 31 and 36 pounds air pressure. Obviously, the battery level drops faster when using the highest pressure. The compressor only runs while you are painting. The sensor inside is very fast. It runs nearly as quickly as if it were connected to a full sized compressor. While running, even at full pressure, the compressor is incredibly quiet. I had my tablet running a TV show in the background and I couldn't even hear the compressor running. To sum up, this may be the best deal out there for a beginner. An excellent compressor and airbrush for $80 bucks is a steal. A regular user could keep this as a perfect backup unit and, if you travel a lot to do airbrushing demo's or for whatever reason, this would be a great unit to take with you. A lot lighter and quieter than a normal compressor. It will be the perfect unit for my fiancé and I can easily see a much more experienced airbrush user using the XDOVET. This is a great airbrush and compressor combo for the price. Is it the same as using a large tank compressor or a CO2 tank? No, but the thing is that it works, it works well and I can easily see an intermediate or advanced airbrush artist using this little compressor. Overall, I'm excited to teach my fiancé how to use an airbrush and this will be the perfect unit for her to use. ... show more

  • Detail Airbrush with cordless compressor
Color: Black
Before I review I want to let you know that I am a professional artist with more than thirty years of airbrush background as a daily career. AIRBRUSH; this is actually a pretty solid Airbrush for the cost. It has a very fine needle and some solid atomization. Compared to the Iwata's that I normally use. It comes with a variety of useful accessories including various sized attachable cups based on need. I have sprayed Inks, watercolors, (@L1 setting) Acrylics, Liquid Acrylics and 1-shot enamels (@L3 setting) through this airbrush so far. Everything sprayed well but, test mix ratios to insure smooth flow. The trigger works smoothly and allows great line control. The handle has an adjustable knob to limit needle pullback. Great for a consistant line size but I have no use for it personally. The attached photos are of a canvas that I am currently paintimg with this item. 90% of the image is airbrushed. I am painting it using Media Comart Colors. These are liquid Acrylics. Transparent colors spray great right out of the bottle. Opaque colors need about a 25% reduction to get proper atomization of paint at the L3 setting. Overall this Airbrush is good for canvas and crafts and other small projects. Its a good illustration quality airbrush for a beginner or an experianced artist who is not ready to drop $500 on a high end tool. COMPRESSOR; This was the primary reason for my purchase. I had seen a couple of videos of the direct attach compressors and wanted to try it. Since they were out of stock i chose this one due to the multiple pressure settings. L1-L4. L4 is 32psi which is plenty for the paints i listed. I live in an apartment and generally use CO2 since I am too cheap to buy a silent compressor. The compressor is slightly thicker than a pack of smokes. It is USB powered but runs cordless. at L3 setting running almost non stop its power goes from 100%-25% in about 45 minutes. But, It fully charges in about 15 minutes I use a USB to smart outlet for charging. Phone or laptop charger also works. I connected a quick connect to the supplied hose which allows me to switch between airbrushes which is a plus. Noise levels while in use are tolerable and allowed me to still clearly hear my TV at normal volume levels. I have had no issues with this product so far in 2 months of regular use it has earned a spot on my desk. NEGATIVES; It does get a little hot when constantly running which is expected so maybe do not put it in your pocket. You cannot spray Createx colors direct from bottle because they require 50-70psi for proper atomization so no t shirts sadly. I think this is a good purchase for the price. ... show more

  • Much better than expected
Color: Black
I'm not an airbrush artist or expert. I do have a few and my use for airbrushes is usually single color painting of small objects. I also use an airbrush for painting glass with black tempera paint to prepare the glass for laser engraving with a diode laser. For that, I need a very smooth and very even coat on the glass. When I saw this on sale, I thought it would be easy and portable, but didn't expect much for the price. I'm pleasantly surprised that this has worked great for the tempera pain on glass and works as well as my more expensive ones with a larger compressor. For light portable use, this is a great deal! ... show more

  • Worked well, too bad it caught on fire
Color: Black
I bought this to do fabric painting, where I use it continuously for long periods of time. I had never used an airbrush and found it easy to learn how to use. I usually will go all the way through the battery, which lasts maybe about 30-40 minutes at the low power setting. I only used the product a few times. The last use, I had ran the battery all the way out and charged it for a couple minutes so I could wrap up what I was working on. When I started to use it again, I noticed it was very hot to the touch. I went to clean it out, as I thought it should cool down and while and didn't want to clog the airbrush. I was cleaning it when I noticed a smell and looked over at the compressor - it was visibly smoking. Thankfully, it didn't burn to the point of melting the exterior box, but it very obviously was on fire inside the unit. ... show more

  • Need a 1/4" rubber gasket for the quick connect!
Works great with my Iwata. Just make sure you order a small 1/4" rubber gasket and maybe some thread tape so that you can more properly seal the quick connect to 1/4" female connector. It leaks without it. Can also pick this up at a local big box hardware store.
