The Carlsbad Cruiser style decks are similar to the standard wooden Teak Tuning decks, but with a more pointed nose and squared off tail. The unique cruiser shape feels different and fun to ride, especially in bowls and transition fingerboarding.Each deck is handmade from five plies of wood veneer. Center plies feature a unique color combination that will vary with each deck. The cross-grain plies provide maximum strength and durability. Holes are countersunk for screws so trucks can be installed with ease. The cruiser deck measures 29mm wide at its narrowest point, 34mm at its widest point, and is 100mm long. I ordered the teak tuning 34 mm zebrawood deck, eco 85D wheels, and prodigy trucks. I’m posting the same review for all of them because they all went into the same build and because I really don’t have anything else to compare to them to. This is my first fingerboard and I had no idea what I was getting into, but they looked so interesting and fun that I had to try. So, the parts show up and I watch them for a while. Cogitating how and when they’d be assembled, but not of the specifics of actually doing the deed. A couple youtube videos fix all trepidation. Specifically, I just searched for teak tuning videos and watched ‘em. Then I put off doing anything for a day or two until I had something else I needed to get done and building a fingerboard seemed the perfect distraction. Everything, except some scissors, needed was in those little baggies from teak tuning – including the little screwdriver/nut driver tool for those impossibly small screws and lock nuts. It even included the sanding board for getting the grip tape just right. Assembly took less time than watching the videos. I’d have messed it up if it weren’t for those videos. The deck looks great – black grip tape on top and pretty zebrawood underneath. The trucks came with pro duro 61A bubble bushings that replaced the stock ones that were already installed. They make a huge difference. It’s kinda silly that they weren’t already installed, but I get it. Supply chains and stuff – that how the trucks came from the manufacturer and Teak Tuning included the better ones because they’re so much better. (Thank You!) The wheels fit perfectly and are unexpectedly hard. They’re not causing a problem. I just expected something softer and grippier. The end result is … fantastic. It looks awesome and I can’t help but play with it whenever my hands need to fidget. Luckily, there are videos showing how to do various tricks. I’m not good at any of them, but will be.
