This is a fine item I definitely recommend. It came with the holes pre-drilled and sticks fit in perfectly. You may have experienced those basic cheap flat incense burners found in most stores that are almost useless for the purpose of catching ashes. If you are lucky enough to have the ashes land on that tiny thing you'd be even luckier to bring it somewhere for ash disposal without accidentally dropping most of the ashes or having them blow away. How can a tiny flat burner even be expected to do the job? I'm not sure. Aside from small nitpicking this item is functionally perfect. Since I began using it all ashes have landed properly inside this catcher, and moving it has not caused ashes to spill. It looks great and is a pleasure to use. I deducted one star because the finish on the one I received isn't like most of the photos shown, but closer to the dark color shown in the top photo. The other photos look like they have been processed to make the item look more appealing. The piece is definitely finished, but does have some basic roughness in a few spots. You might expect some variance if you decide to order this item. The description says the item is 11" long; the one I received is closer to 12". This is great for Indian and American sticks, but I would not recommend using Japanese or Tibetan incense in this burner. I'd say it has "character", is a pretty solid deal, and is worthy of being your main burner for sticks. Update 3/5/2018 - Since writing this review the photos have been updated to be more accurate, showing the nice dark color. 5 stars.

Quite possibly the best incense burner created. I have been burning incense for ages, after really getting serious with my lhp spiritual practice; daily operations, it became apparent that the tacky and flashy burners I was using where not going to cut it. I've been through them all, fancy dragon heads, towers, bottles, etc. The fancy ones create a mess or make the incense go out, the bottles cheapen preparatory immersion, and the flashy ones distract from singular focus, along with all the prior stated not holding enough ashes resulting in constant cleaning which limits productivity. Enter this Titan of a burner. The finish is classy, it looks high tier while not distracting from Ritual focal points; sigils, visualization, black mirrors and etc. It holds virtually two months of ashes; I burn incenses 3-4 times daily in offering to self and external things, so keep this in mind. The holes are perfectly milled, and every form of Americanized stick incense has worked flawlessly. This includes random offerings; cheapos I find at random places that are not uniform in diameter thickness. Even on my worst days, this catches the ashes, I can be tired and in need of cleansing, low light, with only a small fire brazer burning, and this does not fail me. Finish will likely vary, but mine came flawless, and well stained. There is not much more that can be said.. This burner is the spearhead of burners. If you are serious, and want something that gives non tacky looks, and apex functionality. This is the burner that will preform, and keep preforming as initiations constantly progress, when others fail or are outgrown.

This is solid, stable, and can burn two incense sticks simultaneously. But, what I like best is that it is wide enough to catch all the ash. And, it looks nice.

I placed this in my garden tub area in this picture. I have a smaller tray. Inside of the one I purchased incense are pretty strong, but on a nice night, I can crack the window and let some of the smell out.

This is nice, I wish the holes for the incense were offset just slightly so when u burn two sticks at the same time they don't touch at the cross points of the burning sticks.

Over the years, I've gone through easily two dozen incense burners. Most suffer from the same problem: ash-splash. If they're the vertical type, ashes fall dangerously on the material beyond the diameter of the burner. If they're the horizontal type, they're typically too narrow to hold all the ashes. There are some boxes and jars adapted for incense, too, but none have ever appealed to me--they're too bulky. This burner is terrific. It's simple, tasteful, and consummately functional. I just got it and have tried it with different sticks. All the ashes fall safely in the trough. And both holes (to hold the sticks) work with a variety of stick sizes--from thin (incense burns at a shallow incline) to thick (incense burns closer to 45-degrees to 60-degrees). The ashes remained safely on the burner.

It looks beautiful, able to hold 2 incense sticks in each hole, allowing for plenty of burn and smoke. It also is wide enough to contain all of the ashes. My favorite incense burner so far!
