If you want true blackout, this is the closest you'll get for this price range; because otherwise, you'll need to build a frame above the rod (sold separately) to block out the light at the top. You'll need blinds under these curtains to complete the blackout effect and by pointing the blinds downwards so that the light filters down into the curtains. These work to block light though you can see light on the ceiling. In the dark I could see cell phone light coming from the other side up on my side of the ceiling. Not much you can do about that, as I have these curtains really close to the ceiling. I got ones that were longer than I needed but they actually work at that length and stay in place better than if they didn't touch the floor. These do not really block sound on the other side, which is what I bought them for (ended up getting ear plugs for that after these didn't help). I know other reviews said they didn't block sound but I didn't believe them. Now I do. I bought 2 of these so I could pull them from each side of the 15ft room and I could walk between them to get into my part of the sleeping area. I only close them at night and keep them tied back during the day. I bought these in an effort to get better sleep. ... show more
