  • Should have bought this years ago
Size: 3. 21-27|F-150
I can't believe I carried a step stool in my bed for 10 years when I could have installed this. Great product. Relatively simple, but very effective. Feels very sturdy and was easy to install. Only time will tell if the coating holds up to the elements and resists rust, but it appears to be high quality. To address some negative comments from other reviews: Some complained it was difficult to operate if dirt gets in the track - this is mentioned in the installation instructions and is just a matter of where it is located. Simply spray it off with a hose if it becomes difficult to operate. Others complained that the supplied bolts won't seat and are not long enough. That is not the case. The issue is that 2 of the mounting bolts that are used need to screw into nut clips instead of a welded nut or threaded frame and the clips can move around and are difficult to see due to location. These 2 bolts are the hardest part of the installation, but if you understand that they are screwing into loose frame clips, then you can use a screw driver or other tool to hold them in place from the back while you get the bolt threads started, then they will be fine. I suppose the instructions could address this point a little better. When I first tried to put the bolt in, it wasn't grabbing anything and I had to get some better lighting to see what was going on. But I am not going to blame the product - this is just how Ford attached the 2 bolts in question. Anyone with some mechanical competence should have no issues. ... show more

  • Quality item but somewhat involved installation
Size: 5. 19-27|Ram 2500/3500
Excellent design. Strong and fits the vehicle well. The materials used are robust and should stand up to long-term use and the environment encountered in on-road and off-road applications. However, the installation is a bit more involved than one might believe from the assembly instructions. The list of reqjuired tools is woefully short of reality. Assembly requires the removal and re-use of OEM bolts, which are much larger than the socket size specified in the instructions and have a very high torque value. A good set of metric wrenches and sockets is a must. Be prepared for high torque values in both removal and replacement of major structural bolts. Also be advised that assembly requires installing fasteners by feel alone as they are in positions that are not visible. A good working light that can be clamped to various structural members of the chassis is a great help. as are small and flexible ratchets and extensions. A half-inch drivetorque wrench is a plus when re-installing the larger bolts. Lackimg that a breaker bar or a very strong arm is advised. In my case relocation of an electrical box was required and heavy-duty zip ties were needed to secure the revised location. I recommend the use of Loctite on the structural bolts upon re-installation. Altogether the effort is justified by the end result, but one must be prepared for a bit more work than is initially indicated by the fact that installation only requires a small amount of assembly and installation of a few fasteners. ... show more

  • Super easy to install. Anyone can do this.
Size: 3. 21-27|F-150
I installed this step onto a 24 F150. Its very sturdy and strong looks good under the truck. The hardware and instructions also good. But the only thing I would do differently is I would put everything together and then install it on the truck. It'll make it a whole lot faster to install. But still it was easy to install. And for the price it's perfect. I fully recommend this step. ... show more

  • Good product, challenging installation
Size: 7. 24-27|Tacoma
Overall build quality seems good. Installation was difficult for me. I am not familiar with the underside appearance of my truck (2025 Tacoma TRD). The instructions used cartoon drawings to illustrate attachment points. I found this very confusing. There is no orientation for the drawings. The box frame attachment is different for TRD Tacos than for other models and this was a little hard to figure out. The types of tools need to be expanded as well. You really need a long combination wrench to get to some of the deeper points of attachment. However, once installed, it functions well, seems sturdy, and is easy to extend/retract. Like other reviewers, I would put the foot step together prior to installation. It has a subtle profile and is not obtrusive in appearance at all. ... show more

  • This is so cool, easy install, well built
Size: 3. 21-27|F-150
I’m not as agile as I used to be, and this is exactly what I was looking for. When I was climbing in and out of the bed of my F150, I would sometimes use a 5 gallon bucket as a step. I would also use multiple methods to get in and out, including the jump the flip and the side step I was always worried that I would one day trip and fall luckily that never happened. I kept thinking what if someone made a step that attached to the bumper? I saw some that connect into your trailer hitch, but that’s no good if the tailgate is down. Others said I should’ve bought a platinum because the step is built into the tailgate. Well that’s easier said than done . Then I saw this bolt on step. Wasnt a whole lot of reviews but it looked cool and as always Amazon will accept returns so I figured let’s get a try Of course doesn’t take long for Amazon to deliver and I unboxed it last night. I was impressed by the quality of the build. There are three separate pieces to to bolt together and then the bracket that bolts to the bumper and then the mechanism for the step bolts to the bracket. Pretty straightforward installation and I’m pretty mechanically inclined. Perhaps it took me slightly more than the 30 minutes as advertised, but there’s just not a whole lot of room to get two hands up in there and bolt everything together. No fault of the manufacturer of the step. It’s just the way trucks are built. Couple tips, I would leave the two bolts just snug that bolt the two pieces of the bracket together until you have it bolted to the bumper. Just give you a little bit of wiggle room as everything is pretty tight. Once you have all the bolts and then you can snug everything down. Also make sure you’re using the correct bolts for the correct connections as there’s not many but they are pretty darn close in size and one time. I thought it was the mechanism not lining up but it was me using the incorrect bolt. So that added about five minutes to the installation totally my fault. After everything bolted together, you then put the step on and line it up to either the bumper line or the fender line or split the difference. It does tuck up pretty well out of the way, but yes, it is visible. It out with 1 foot or can be put back with 1 foot if your hands are full. But I’m not afraid that it’s just going to fly open up when I’m driving. It’s fixed down a couple inches from the bumper, but it’s not any lower than your trailer hitch so you’re not losing any ground clearance. I used it about 10 times and just thought wow this thing is really cool. ... show more
