First, there’s no flow. It reads like a review that just links to amazon products. As if he cut and pasted from other sources, so there are paragraphs that don’t make sense in context of the chapter. He repeatedly refers to Romex as Rolex wire. He describes Sheetrock as “highly flammable”. There’s a long (confusing and incorrect) discussion on the dangers of arcing, and no follow through on how it’s avoided. I got it for the solar section, and again was disappointed. He appears to know little. I know everything in the book from pursuing websites for the past week. And again, full of bad info. Inverters are NOT for conditioning incoming DC power! I’m sending this back as defective. Poorly written, confusing, and dangerous. ... show more

I bought two wiring books at the same time. This one, Neal Johnson’s Wiring Guide 2020, and another one, that happens to be the 45th edition of a wiring simplification book I first bought in 1999. The simplified wiring book is based on the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC) but despite reference to 2020 in this book, I could not find a reference to which NEC version it is based upon. Apart from that, the most striking thing about this book is the writing itself and the lack of common methods of linking illustrations or pictures to a portion of the text. I did not find one linking reference between images and text statements. There were also many points where the description of “wires” goes back and forth with “cables” and without some clue as to why the different descriptions were used for wires in the same explanation, I was totally lost. I gave it only two stars. I would have rated it lose but Mr. Johnson deserves some credit for the effort he took to make the book. If my return had not run out, I would return it. I would not recommend it or buy it again. ... show more

    • Verry Bad Book
I call my self an advanced DIY guy. I have rewired my current home Including a new meater base and main panel. Also added sub panels to out buildings. I am starting to build a new home and was looking for a book to use as a code reference as that stuff changes from time to time. This book is NOT good for advanced or beginner DIY peope in my opinion. I will be keeping it in the Job Johne as back up TP thats all it is good for. ... show more

Did not think this book was helpful in any way in knowing how to do electric. No pictures. Seems like some people write books to make money.

Was a bad choice for me.... really needed a more straight forward instructional book. This is not the book for the guy who wants to know step by step wiring.

It is probably a very good book. but mostly words and small pictures. I don't see that well, so bought a book with big pictures .

Good info, but can be too vague at times and tends to write like a text book. Feels kind of like reading legal paperwork.
