  • Great Quality Budget Barefoot Option!
Cannot say enough how much we love the quality and look of Whitins! My family is big on barefoot shoes, but it’s been hard to get our 16 yo to adapt to wearing them. We’ve tried many different brands, but she insists they all looked terrible, until we came across these. They gel with the teen aesthetic apparently. She’s now been wearing them consistently for over a year and they have held up quite well. She’s a true US size 7 with a narrow foot and we found these to be true to size (38) . Even in Texas summers, they are very breathable. She’s able to walk all day in them and even take them to rocky trail areas for light hiking. At this price point, we’ve tried other brands where the bottom adhesive started peeling away, or the fabric started wearing within months, but not Whitins! For the price we find these to be one of the best barefoot shoes on the market. Highly recommend this purchase to those looking to start out on barefoot/minimal options. ... show more

  • Good shoes - wide toe box, zero-drop, can feel grounded, stylish
Size: 7 Wide Color: W823 | All Black
Fit well; my feet are basically triangles: narrow heels but wide ball of foot. They fit great! Wide toe box makes keeping a proper gait much easier. I like that I can feel the ground---the soles are nice and sturdy/grippy but not too thick---which makes it easier for me to keep my balance since I can tell when the ground is uneven. I could see some people not liking that you can feel the gravel/rocks/sticks, but I personally felt there was just enough cushion that it isn't uncomfortable. Maybe avoid if you have sensitive soles. I also like the style; this brand does a variety, which is really nice when you want the barefoot-style shoes but also want some *fashion.* The high top ones had a lower top than I was expecting; it is lower than "classic" high tops, but I still enjoy it. ... show more

  • Perfect width
Size: 7 Wide Color: W823 | All Black
Love these. I bought 1/2 size smaller and the fit is good. A little difficult to get on unless you loosen several laces. If you get a thin insert these are very comfy. Looks like they will be able to be washed so I’ll update once I do.

  • Comfy but clownish
Size: 9 Wide Color: W823 | All Black
These shoes were fine. I love a barefoot feeling, but I had to return them because they felt a little clownish on me. The toebox was super wide, super roomy, which I love, but it was almost excessive. I definitely got the right size for my feet, but they still felt almost floppy on the sides of my toes. The length and width fit perfectly. ... show more

  • Perfection
Size: 8 Wide Color: W823 | All Black
Hands down best shoes I've EVER had. I've been searching for the perfect wide/box toe shoes for many years & here they are. They're comfy, cute & supportive. The high top helps with ankle support. I wear them everywhere.. the grocery store, hiking, the gym etc. If youre looking for an all-in-one shoe, you can stop searching. ... show more

  • These shoes almost fully fixed my foot problems alone.
Size: 6.5 Wide Color: W823 | Black Gum
I've had these shoes for 2 months Maybe now. I have dealt with foot problems corns and calluses on the bottom of my feet for ever. A little backstory is about every other week I need to take a razor blade and delicately carve out the calluses and corns from the bottom of my feet. I came across a commercial for these shoes that admitted that the first two weeks I wear these shoes I would be in pain because my feet would be readjusting to the ground. I was hesitant to buy them because my podiatrist (foot doctor) said that I need more supportive shoes . In the two months that I've worn these shoes I have nothing but good things to say about them I do have some negatives that I will mention at the bottom but all these positives have outweighed those minute negatives. (I don't remember if the commercial is saw was for these shoes exactly or just for pros of switching to barefoot shoes) The first two weeks I was in the shoes was exactly like what the commercial said was happened. (But I wasn't in severe pain, because I was in severe pain all the time from walking on this corn on the bottom of my foot). So after closing in on the second week I noticed that the corn on the bottom of the center of my foot was almost COMPLETELY gone. These shoes are very comfortable to walk in. They are wide enough for my crooked toe. I LOVE THE PADDED BACK so my ankles don't get raw. The color has held up in the rain. Pretty easy to keep clean (so far.. I haven't spilled anything sticky on me yet) The negative is that I feel like I might need to replace the shoes a lot sooner than my older pairs of shoes but I now wear these shoes more than any other shoes that I own so that could be a contributing factor. I would gladly buy these shoes again if they were to fall apart. The second negative might be more or less because they are high-tops or mid-tops I have to unlace part of my shoe to get my foot in. And only in is the problem getting out I can slide them out no problem. I even bought a second pair of these shoes for a slip-on pair that I could just run outside real quick in, they are good too but these, these are AMAZING. I do still have the "root" of the corn on the bottom of my foot, so I still need to maintain that area until it grows out I assume. But I can say these shoes almost SOLEY fixed my foot problems. Haha get it lol Ok im done now 😅 ... show more

  • Finally, a shoe my feet don't mind (much)
Size: 9.5 Wide Color: W823 | All Black
I'd rather actually BE barefoot, but SO FAR, these are the best wide toe-box zero-drop BAREFOOT shoes I've found FOR ME. I wear shoes to protect my feet, including my soles - and not just the epidermis. I walk on rough ground with roots and rocks, and my feet have a lot of miles on them. Even on asphalt or concrete, I don't want my foot to land wrong on a pebble or piece of gravel and end up with a stone bruise. And honestly, even if I don't run, my soles begin to ache if I've been on my feet all day. So, while I do appreciate their flexibility I do NOT actually want barefoot shoes. If I did, I would wear sandals. But right now, barefoot shoes are the only ones with the OTHER features I need, features I have always wanted. I need a natural foot shape (wide toe-box) in a wide width. I need zero-drop, having worn flip flops, sandals, moccasins, or gone barefoot most of my life ... and for another reason. I also need a high instep (NOT a high arch; these are two different things), and since no manufacturer - yet - acknowledges that feet have three dimensions, not two, I'm often restricted to lace ups. So, I need a bigger size for the wider width and roomier toe box, but also to accommodate that high instep (aka high volume) foot. The shaft of boots helps keep my feet from sliding forward and scrunching my toes. I have never been able to tolerate high heels. ANY raised heel puts pressure on my toes. (I would probably prefer boots even if the length were right, because on shoes that come up high in the back - like sneakers - the part that tapers in either digs into the back of my ankle or makes a high blister on the back of my heel.) I agree with the manufacturer who says shoes only need to cradle our feet. not constrain them. So, I do wish these shoes were a little taller up and down, including the toe box. Still, I was able to squeeze one pair of insoles in to add cushioning (expensive flat ones by Perserveranx, which work much better than two layers of the thin ones that flatten out fast, the 3 pairs/$6 in the yellow cellophane). I buy insoles in the biggest size available; otherwise, I don't think they would fill up the wide toe-box. Even though I knew it wasn't possible, I told my friend I wanted to find a cobbler who could put a croslite sole on these. He laughed out loud and said, "What, are you from the 18th century?" Okay, shoe repair. After extensive wear, the tongue got a little fluffy, soI had to run the laces through the keeper loop at a higher point. Otherwise, the tongue would gradually slide down and bunch up at the bottom. Lacing them a little tighter than I had been also helped. I prefer canvas to the knit versions for aesthetic reasons (if it is not cotton, it at least appears to be, and to my eye, knit shoes look too much like polyester sweaters), because it has two ventilation holes (exactly where they are needed, which works better than a "breathable" knit), and because my buddy's claws don't snag them. Granted, the fabric is a fur magnet, and it really stands out against black, but I'm very used to dealing with that. I am quite pleased with the generous lace length. I bought Jackshibos and Nursgrams and sent them back. I thought the soles might be more cushioned because they look thicker. But one pair felt like I was standing a grid attached to a stiff rim. The heel of the other pair seemed like different - or perhaps "thickened" - material, and the transition was very noticeable. With both, it was immediately obvious. Except for a pair of Altas, whose contoured insole's arch hit me in the wrong place, among other things, I haven't tried more expensive zero-drops because their cousins in similar brands didn't seem very promising. But as for "minimalist" shoes, well, they should come at a minimalist price. I did buy a pair of Whitin running shoes and went for the men's version because another reviewer suggested the soles might be more cushioned. The smallest men's size is 8/41, comparable to a women's 9.5/41. (I have these booties in 9 and 9.5 because my feet swell sometimes, though in better brands of sandals, I wear 8.5 or sometimes 8.) The men's running shoes are a little wider, and they have a bigger footprint, but the insoles are almost exactly the same size. Also, their insoles are a tiny bit thicker at the front. The men's shoes are a little big, but for the extra cushioning, I'm willing to try them with thicker socks In the photos, I show both these and the running shoes. ... show more
