  • Very comfortable, good shoe to transition to barefoot shoes
Size: 13 Wide Color: Grey
I recently developed some foot problems, and I needed to switch to shoes with a wide toe box and a zero drop heel. I'd gotten a pair of Whitins' minimalist shoes - and they're good, but I'm old, and my feet were having a hard time adjusting to the thin, very flexible soles. The thin soles exercise your feet a lot - which is good in the long run, but my feet will take awhile to build that strength. In the meantime, I want to walk longer distances. This new model is perfect for me. It has the wide toe box, and the zero drop heel - but the sole is not quite as flexible as the minimalist version, and it has some cushioning. It's not at all as rigid or cushioned as regular trainers, which is great - a lot of the feel of the surface you're walking on comes through, and the soles also flex enough to exercise and strengthen your feet, unlike traditional trainers. They're a good intermediate choice on the way to wearing minimalist shoes - or just good on their own. Another benefit for me is that the uppers are made of a tough but stretchy fabric which molded around my bunion, one of the issues I'm dealing with. The shoes don't irritate it, saving me one more problem. All in all, I'm very happy with these. Update - 8 months later, and I'm still very happy with these shoes. They still look new, they're still comfortable. My feet are stronger and I can walk two or three miles again with no foot pain. The foot issues I had have improved a lot, in large part because of these shoes. My toes have spread because they have enough room, now. That's helped my bunion, and the circulation in my feet. It's just more comfortable to walk in these than in any other shoes I've owned. ... show more

  • Wow, these are great
Size: 11 Wide Color: Grey
I purchased my first pair of zero drop minimalist shoes from Whitin (Trail Runners) and was looking forward to trying these running shoes. Lots of room: The first thing I noticed is all the room in the toe box. I know they are advertised as such, but until you actually put them on, wow. I have bad neuropathy and some weakness / atrophy in a few of my toes from a stroke; so I am converting to all zero drop minimalist wide toe box shoes. I am trying to get them more room, plus the grip and ability to move and grip with more of the toes is great. I have a narrow heel, and these grip the heel and also have some support in the heel area. There is no slipping on your heel, nice solid fit. Like my other pair of Whitin's, these have just the right amount of ground feel. Just the right amount of insole and bottom to protect the feet; but not so much that prevents you from gripping with your toes or not really feeling the ground. I did read a review stating that the bottoms are not anti-slip, so I gave that a try. I was moping an inside tile floor and I gave them a test, pretty slippery. Wet asphalt or concrete - no problem great grip. Grass, dirt and gravel - great grip. Just be careful on wet tile, which is all our kitchen is. My Whitin trail runners have awesome grip on all wet surfaces, why wouldn't they put non-slip soles in these too? These are great minimalist shoes, light and comfortable. I changed out the laces to a hiking lace to give it some color, but size is spot on (I am a true 45). ... show more

  • Fits like a glove but..
Size: 8.5 Wide Color: Grey
I've had these shoes for almost a month. I bought them because I walk a lot in the evenings (2-3 mile walks with dog). I was looking a for a form fitting shoe that was ideally zero drop and these had good reviews. The shoes are form fitting, very light, and provide comfortable walking. Based on reviews and guidance when ordering I ordered my actual size (8.5W). I will say they are true to size if wearing very thin or no socks. I typically wear wool socks every day and keep them on after work. Although not super thick, the socks make for a snug fit in these shoes and don't necessarily let my feet breath the way I would like. Kind of makes for slightly uncomfortable wearing. However when I switch to thinner socks the shoes fit and function exactly as I hoped. My work shoes are 8.5 wide and fit well with wool socks. These shoes are 8.5 wide but require thin socks for the best fit for me. December Update: These shoes stretched or became more form fitting on my feet. Right now they feel less snug and are extremely comfortable. They are made with very light breathable material so wind and moisture cut right through them. They are truly minimalist shoes (i.e. not a lot of foot protection). With that said, they are great for exercising, walking, running, and wearing in the house but I would suggest something more substantial if you are hiking or doing heavy yard work. ... show more
