  • Chewy like a steak and healthy stuff
This is more than I expected, high quality product. Packaging was nice along with a well designed recipe. I simply soaked some portions and pan fried with oil, salt and pepper. Taste was amazing ! It's so chewy and savory! I will definitely purchase more. I didn't expect that my husband would like this but he ate most of portions so I should have prepared more packages. ... show more

  • Good combination with Korean BBQ
My family is a big fan of the mushroom, and all of us really loved It. I love that this is from Korea, and it's organic. And it's really simple to cook. I grilled it along with the pork belly, and the combination was really good. You just need to soak it in hot water for like 5-10 minutes because it's dried. ... show more

  • Nice mushrooms
We've never had these particular mushrooms before. And we love mushrooms in this family, and are fully aware of the benefits of some mushrooms. These came well packaged and were fresh upon opening. Once hydrated, these imparted a very nice aroma. We first tried a few in some homemade wonton soup. These were amazing. Texture was a bit chewy for us, but we've come to expect that from rehydrated mushrooms. We then decided to add them to a stir fry dish, and again, these were great. Overall, a great mushroom with versatility. However, the price point of these is a bit high. ... show more

  • excellent
Beautiful mushrooms - large and meaty, dried to perfection. You'll need to rehydrate them prior to using, but don't discard the liquid: use it in soups or sauces for extra umami flavor. ;)

  • Taste best reconstituted and in a heated dish
When these came, quadruple-wrapped in layers of plastic (overkill and not needed) and also vacuum-sealed (great!), I first tried nibbling on a piece dry just to get a sense of this mushroom's flavor. (Sometimes I powder dried mushrooms and sprinkle them like salt on salads and such.) Then I boiled some water and put a few pieces into a prep bowl to rehydrate for about ten minutes. These are meaty oyster mushrooms! Much meatier than the ones I grew myself last year, Pleurotus ostreatus. I diced up some and cooked them on my breakfast sandwich, made with two street-sized flour tortillas, mozzarella cheese, and two eggs in my beloved egg sandwich maker, then sprinkled on a little celery salt. Oh my! The flavor of those mushrooms really perked up that sandwich and also helped me not miss having meat on it because the mushrooms are nice and meaty. And I just crave mushrooms; I know there is something in them that my body needs. The product info refers to these as White Golden Mushrooms, but there was no reference to the specific species of mushroom (something I know every mushroom lover will want to know), so I emailed them and asked. I was pleasantly surprised to get a long, very helpful email from their representative, Juyoung Seo, with the cultivar and a lot of historical and development information about this mushroom, plus a link to breeding info on their website (in Korean, but Google translatable). They are obviously very proud of their mushrooms, which I was told are very popular and widely sold in Korea but new to the American market. FROM THEIR EMAIL: This mushroom is a new variety that has been researched and developed by the Rural Development Administration of Korea for 7 years. The correct cultivar name is "Pleurotus ferulae x tuoliensis-WhiteGold (KiMB-Plft-15-81)". It is the reason that we made the brand name is "White Gold Mushroom" ... The color and shape of the fruiting body are white, thick and very large. So, we call it "Emporer mushroom" in Korea. The word emperor has the meaning of "supreme/king/best/mega/biggest". etc. :) That's why it's also called "steak mushroom" in Korea. There has been a good bit of research done on this mushroom. I enjoyed the 2019 article in Frontiers of Microbiology; the following quote from the introduction of the article by Fang Du, et al., has searchable names for further investigation, if you are interested. I think fungi are about the most interesting critters on the planet, and they hold great promise for the future of feeding our world. Pleurotus tuoliensis, also known as P. ferulae, P. eryngii var. tuoliensis or P. nebrodensis, is a valuable and rare edible fungus (Zhao et al., 2016). It has extremely high nutritional and medicinal value. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that fungal polysaccharides contained in P. tuoliensis have many biological properties such as improving human immunity (Li et al., 2016), anti-tumor (Wang et al., 2014), antioxidant (Alam et al., 2012) and cholesterol-lowering activities (Alam et al., 2011). ... show more
