Description

Remember when you had a perfectly square jointer to flatten out your boards and workpieces? Maximize precision with the WEN 6-Inch Benchtop Jointer. Our powerful 10-amp motor combined with the two-blade 6-1/8 inch cutterhead provides up to 20,000 cuts per minute, making easy work out of even the hardest of woods. Adjust the infeed table to take cuts anywhere from 0 to 1/8 inches deep. The onboard scale makes for easy adjustments to the depth of cut for maximum accuracy before each pass. The spacious table measures in at 6-1/4 x 28-1/2 inches for large or uniquely-shaped workpieces. Bevel the fence up to 45 degrees to create angled cuts along the faces of your boards. The spring- loaded blade guard helps protect against accidental injury, exposing the cutterhead only during jointing operation. This package also features an onboard dust port, a push stick, a push block, and a filter bag for minimal cleanup. And, because its a WEN product, the WEN 6-Inch Benchtop Jointer comes backed by a two-year warranty, a nationwide network of skilled service technicians and a friendly customer help line all to make sure you remember WEN.

  • Don't buy the aluminum version! Get this one!
This is actually kind of impressive. I wasn't sure what to expect, since WEN seems to vary quite a bit in build quality, but this turned out to be a good one. I almost bought the aluminum version since it'd arrive sooner, but I'm glad I didn't. If you're not very familiar with machine tools, you will be well served by remembering that cast iron is the superior metal for anything that vibrates. It has a unique microscopic structure where the carbon has precipitated out and formed into graphite flakes. Graphite is an extremely good dry lubricant. This means that the crystals can slide past each other slightly, and that means that a sound wave traveling through the material ends up being absorbed rather quickly. This is awful for an anvil, but for something that's supposed to not move when there's a cutting tool attached chopping away at something, it's excellent. Cast iron is also much stiffer than aluminum. Since a jointer is about as close as woodworkers get to precision, this is actually important here. By chance, I found a rather nice surface gauge at a pawn shop the same day this jointer arrived, so I attached my dial indicator to it and swept it across the two tables. I found that the infeed table sloped down about 0.030" out of the box, so I definitely recommend checking it when it arrives. There are some set screws underneath at the four corners of the motor that can adjust the leveling of the infeed table. Definitely check the manual first because it's a little easy to confuse them with the motor mounting screws. You can really dial the thing in if you have an indicator, but you can probably get by with a nice straight-edge and some cheap feeler gauges. Failing that, a flashlight behind your straightedge, a lot of patience, and probably some lower back soreness. Oh, yeah, and it makes nice cuts. The motor will indeed bog down if you take a heavy 6" wide cut, so... just take it easy on those and you won't notice it. The fence is also nice, but the angle adjustment is a bit on the goofy side. I recommend getting a digital angle gauge that has some magnets in it, then you can just set it to whatever angle you need. UPDATE: Still cutting nicely. I've put quite a bit of pine across it so far. When I read my review again, I realized that some people might think the sloping infeed table is indicative of poor build quality. It's not. No matter where you buy a jointer or who you buy one from, you should absolutely check all the adjustments before using it! ... show more

  • It's an inexpensive jointer, so if precision is what you want then you will have to modify it
It's an inexpensive portable jointer, so if precision is what you want then you will have to modify it, but precision is attainable. The fence wont sit 90 degrees to the ramps and it's not bc I got a defective unit. It's sort of a combination of part quality that is less than stellar and the design. According to the parts list in the owner's manual the piece labeled "left linkage" has 3 holes drilled through it. One hole is larger than it should be and that allows the linkage to twist when tightening down the fence. I called customer service (who was very helpful and performed flawlessly, by the way) and within a couple days I had a new one delivered to my front door. Unfortunately, it was in vain bc the new part was identical to the original. I remedied the problem by making some shims from an aluminum coca cola can. Fence now sits at 90 degrees from.one end to the other. Now onto the ramps. They're not flat. Not even close when it comes to a machine that's supposed to make precise cuts. I dont know just how far off from flat they are bc I was measuring with my dial indicator and almost immediately found a dip deep enough to hold a puddle of water. My indicator was showing .020+ so I stopped and grabbed my straight edge thinking my indicator must be broken but as I laid dragged it across the ramps i could see the low spots. Wow, that's pretty bad considering how easy it is to manufacture a part, like a jointer ramp, completely flat. To me theres really no excuse for that lack of craftsmanship, especially not on a tool.such as a jointer. Haven't done anything about it yet bc shimming the fence got it cutting pretty close to accurate. At some point I'll probably take the fence and ramps to a machine shop to have them flattened but I'd imagine that will cost a couple hundred bucks. On the plus side the blades are super easy to change and they sharpen up on a wetstone quite nicely. Overall it's a good jointer but if you dont want to fool with tweaking it I recommend getting a higher quality unit. Oh, and its quality wasnt so far off that I wont buy from wen again. In fact I've purchased their 13" planer with the three blade cutter head and granite table since this jointer and it works wonderfully. Thinking about trying out their drill presses next as mine is old and heavily worn ... show more

  • Great tool, great price!
Style: 2017 Model
Out of the box this is ready to go in a few minutes. I have only had a chance to run a few boards through it thus far. I tested it on a few rough cut boards I had made with my bandsaw. It cleaned the boards up perfectly. No fence issues either. In order to get the fence to tighten down I spun the carriage bolt 3/4s of a turn prior to full assembly pretty simple. The cut depth as others have mentioned can wonder after a couple cuts, not really a big deal as it's so easy to adjust where you need it with one knob it's a half second inconvenience.
