Description

Imagine, something as simple as a cube, then imagine it working overtime to keep your clutter contained. The classic cube from Way Basics is that savior in your quest for organization. Stackable by design, you have unlimited combinations to fit any area. Way Basics cubes are individuals, but they can come together to work as a team. You can stack them and customize them in any way you see fit. You can even mix up colors or go monotone, it is entirely up to you Build monuments to your organization in the form of pyramids or stacks, you can even ladder them if you want. From the Manufacturer Q: Can I take apart or disassemble Way Basics? A: The zBoard storage line is assembled with 3M industrial adhesive so once it's assembled it's very secure and cannot be taken apart. Q: Are Way Basics products stackable? A: Stacking is perfectly fine as long as the units are assembled and used per assembly guides just make sure to attach units together using 3M adhesive. Q: How do I assemble Way Basics furniture? A: Peel, stick, done! Assembling Way Basics is fun, easy, requires no tools and best of all, is frustration-free. Our zBoards attach to each other with industrial-strength, double-sided adhesive strips from 3M. Your package includes an assembly guide with step-by-step pictorials. You can also follow this link to our help page for assembly videos and assembly guides. Q: Is the backer board required? A: The backing board is instrumental to providing the overall structural integrity of your Way Basics Products. Choosing to not use it will make the product susceptible to collapse. The backing board is like the spine that holds the product together. Q: How should I care for my Way Basics furniture? A: Just wipe it clean with a damp cloth using plain or slightly soapy water." Sharp or pointed objects can scratch the paper veneer, so take special care! Q: How strong is the double-sided adhesive tape? A: Very, very strong! We use only 3M brand industrial-strength adhesive tape on our products. To take full advantage of all that sticking power and get optimum adhesion, make sure your bonding adhesive surfaces are clean, dry, and properly joined. It works best if you put together your furniture in a room that's between 70° F to 100° F (21° C to 38° C). This super tape's bonds get stronger during the first 24 hours, place objects on top of your unit to adhere to the adhesive and keep in place. Q: Can I recycle Way Basics furniture when I'm done with it? A: Absolutely. All our products are made from paper, so at the end of its useful life, you can just recycle it in your curbside bin. Your furniture might even find its way back to Way Basics to begin another life as a new zBoard unit! Q: Does Way Basics furniture off-gas or container formaldehyde? A: No, Way Basics furniture does not "off-gas," contain formaldehyde or other toxic ingredients. Off-gasing occurs in the manufacturing process of particle board and MDF in which various types of formaldehyde are used. Q: Is the Way Basics packaging recycled too? A: Since packaging is just used to safely transport and protect your furniture, we'd rather keep it basic, recycled, and completely recyclable to ease the load on our environment. Please reuse or recycle your packaging when you're done with it. Q: My zBoard has minor residue/blemishes, is this normal? A: This is normal and is caused by friction from packaging materials we use to keep your product safe during shipping. To get your zBoards zesty clean, just wipe off with a slightly damp cloth and voila, problem solved! If it still doesn't come off or looks like damage, please contact us with your information here and select the product service icon. Q: Where is Way Basics furniture manufactured? A: Way Basics furniture is made on the beautiful island of Taiwan. Taiwan inherited advanced paper engineering and manufacturing processes enabling 74% of total paper production to come from recycled paper. Taiwan is also very eco-conscious recycling 55% of paper used, compared to 35% here in the United States. The Way Basics zBoard is non-toxic and contains no VOC or formaldehyde so it's safe for your home and our environment! Q: Can Way Basics zBoards be painted? A: Our products are paintable, but you will need to prepare the surface first before doing so. Make sure the surface is dry and free of any dust or other material that may hinder the adhesion of the paint. It will also be necessary to use a primer on the surface before painting to assure you get the best possible result. Because our products are water-resistant, painting directly on the boards without a primer will create the paint to “bead up” similar to what may happen if water comes into contact with the surface. When choosing a primer, we recommend using a product that will bond to surfaces such as paper, formica or a similar nonporous material. As long as you use a good primer, you will be able to use water-based paint and paint the product to your liking. Please note that painting Way Basics products are at your own risk with no returns or exchanges. Q: Can Way Basics zBoard be in humid environments? A: Humidity is not a problem unless moisture eventually builds up on the zBoard surface, which can lead to damage. Q: What kind of glue do you use in manufacturing zBoards? A: We use water-based glue that is completely environmentally friendly and recyclable too! Q: Are zBoards water-resistant? A: Yes, the exterior layers of the board are treated with a water-resistant material just like other finished wood veneers. If water gets on the zBoard surface, it will dry (though of course, it's best if you wipe it up like all spills). You'll want to keep water away from the furniture's edges and corners where it's a little more vulnerable to moisture. Again, we hate to sound like your mom, but if water spills, just wipe it up :)

  • I liked it enough to order some more
Color: Espresso Wood Grain Pattern Name: Cube
If you are expecting real furniture, you will be disappointed. This is more like dorm furniture or above-average closet storage. I bought one cube in espresso to see what these were like. I liked it well enough to buy another cube and a quad. Assembly It was technically easy to assemble, but the instructions are lacking. There is a front and back to the panels, which the instructions don't tell you and isn’t glaringly obvious. If you are not experienced enough with self-assembly to know to proceed with caution, you could easily put them on wrong. The instructions refer to a backer board guide, but give you no hint as to what it looks like or where to find it. There were some marks on the back of the cube which might have been alignment marks, but I didn't see any corresponding marks on the backer board, so those didn’t help. There is risk here because of the strong adhesive. Get it wrong, you probably will not be able to readjust it without damaging the backer board. Pay no mind to those who are fretting over "double-sided tape." These are commercial-quality adhesive strips that do a good job of reinforcing the dowel-and-hole construction. If you've done much self-assembly, you are familiar with the furniture that arrives with a lot of little wooden dowels and a small bottle of wood glue. The adhesive strips are a much easier, less messy, and seemingly equally reliable alternative to the wood glue. All in all…very easy to assembly, but not quite so easy to assemble correctly. Poor instructions are common, but given how simple it is to assembly this product, good instructions should be easy. Pros (listed in order of importance to me): 1. It is delightfully lightweight. The laminate alternatives tend to be ridiculously heavy. 2. It is not only available in wood grain color, but in a wood grain color other than oak or espresso, which are pretty much the only two wood colors manufacturers are offering these days. More than that, it is also available in a wood grain color other than dark cherry, which is pretty much the only OTHER wood color manufacturers are offering these days. 3. It is cheaper than a cube made of real wood. I personally would rather have real wood, custom-made in the sizes and colors of my choosing, but that takes time, to say nothing of a good bit of money. For me, the Way Basics cubes are a cost-effective interim storage solution. 4. It claims to be “green,” a claim I take with a full shaker of salt, since there is no way to confirm this, and I’ve been around enough to know that retailers rarely have good control over their suppliers and subcontractors. Limitations (in no particular order): Some reviewers have noted that you shouldn't get them wet. I haven't experimented, but looking at the product, it seems that this risk may be somewhat overstated. The surface is clearly water resistant. The backboard is probably at higher risk, but lots of MDF has a similar backing. If you let it sit wet long enough for water to seep into the cracks, then that might be a problem. But even real wood can warp if it gets soaked. So, a limitation, but maybe not such a big one as others have implied. Will let you know after I spill something on it, which is bound to happen, sooner or later. Just ask my sofa. You cannot use the wood stain colors as freestanding units because they skimped on the backboards and put the wood stain on only one side. The other side is white, so you have to back it up against a wall. This type of penny pinching is a major peeve of mine; I deducted a full star for this limitation alone. Another limitation is in orientation. According to the instructions, you should not lay it on its back, nor should you put it on either of its sides. That leaves only two of five surfaces ("top" and "bottom") that you can lay it on. Given that it's a cube, the four sides should be mostly equal, but some people may be disappointed that they can’t lay it on its back. I didn’t lay it on its back or one of the sides, and so far it seems pretty sturdy for what it is. It’s a cube, and there is a limit on what and how much fits well into a cube. If you look at the photos of any cube display, you will usually see that there is usually a lot of unused space. For this reason, I think these and other cube products would be better described as “display” cubes, rather than “storage” cubes. For a display, the unused space has an aesthetic quality, for storage, it’s just an inefficient waste of space. I don’t like large cubes. I assume the plus and super sizes are offered because…there is a limit on what and how much fits well into the regular cube. The problem with cubes is, you want wider, you get taller and deeper too; you want taller, you wider and deeper too. This can start to eat up a lot of space in the room, while not adding that much to storage capability. I would much prefer a medium brown wood (eg, chestnut, walnut, pecan) and some more muted and more sophisticated color choices (eg, soft coral or rust instead of bright orange, forest green instead of bright lime, sky blue or navy instead of bright blue). ... show more

  • Not worth it
Color: Natural Wood Grain Pattern Name: Cube
I bought one months ago. It was great. I have bought two now. 2 wooden pins were missing. Over all the adhesive material was not working ( maybe old) . I barely assembled one helping with tape 😩😩😩. The other one … I am putting it into the trash 😩😩😩 Never anymore

  • They work
Color: White Pattern Name: Cube
Not as sturdy as I would like but they do the job and hold a lot of books. I would not lift it with any books in them and with little movement they seem ready to break apart, luckily I don’t plan on moving them now that they are set up. I brought two and set one on top of the other in my office nook. ... show more

  • easy to put together, easy to fall apart
Color: Black Wood Grain Pattern Name: Cube
The "glue" that comes with this box is basically a sticker. We put it together once and then after 24 hours when we went to use it, it fell apart. We used wood glue to try again to get it to stay together. I don't know how this would be sturdy enough to stack. I am using this to keep extra stuff hidden in the game room, so it doesn't have to be that great. If I was putting it anywhere else- I would have returned it. ... show more

  • You need glue
Color: White Pattern Name: Cube
Cube is light weight but fairly sturdy however, It will fall apart if you don’t glue it together. The tape it comes with is pretty useless. Once I used liquid nails to keep it together it was perfect

  • Basic, but not for long term.
Color: White Pattern Name: Cube
This is a storage cube that is a step up from a cardboard box. It is fairly easy for one person to assemble. It is not something that will last for a long time nor something that will withstand moving about very often. It serves the purpose I have but not sure for how long. The material is something less than particle board but more than cardboard although the back side is just that, cardboard. The top, bottom and sides are something described as Zboard. It was a reasonable price point that filled my immediate need. Sometimes long term quality is not as important for some applications. Delivery was fast and item was well packaged. ... show more

  • Cube - organizer
Color: White Pattern Name: Cube
This cube is NOT a STURDY product, but I am fine with it because I am not putting anything heavy inside it. The very light structure of the cube is good for what I need it.

  • Fast assembly
Color: Natural Wood Grain Pattern Name: Cube
This item came unassembled and all parts needed to assemble were included as well as an instruction sheet. The main method of assembly was via a 3M sticky strip on 2 ends of 2 of the pieces and also 8 dowels. It was easy to assemble and just took me a couple of minutes. It looks nice and I like the color of the wood. I ordered 4 of these to be able to have some additional storage for emergency food and for this they should work well and will be stacked. My only issue with these is the sticky tape method of attachment instead of screws. I've put a lot of furniture and shelving together and this is the first time I've seen sticky tape (that you peel off) used to attach pieces together. Hoping the pieces stay together over time since I really like these storage cubes. But if they don't they can always be reinforced with glue. ... show more
