Good System but test your water TDS first!
Works really well but be sure to test your TDS in your water first! I have super hard water where I am at. Prior to adding the system my water was consistently above 500 TDS. After installing, output water was around 30 TDS. I Use around 8-9 gallons for the rinse step on my vehicles. At around 50 gallons run through, the TDS was around 200 TDS. By 80 gallons, up around 350 TDS. Replacement filters are pricey so I wish I could get more life out of them. Nonetheless, I like this system! Just wish my water was not so hard!

Leaking!!
Was so excited for this filter but super bummed to find out on the first use it was bad and leaking from this seal! Not cool. Update: seller was quick to respond back to me and sent a replacement and it works great! No leaks super happy!

Great system - make sure you understand some basics first
There are enough reviews talking about how good the system is, so I'll spell out some things any buyer should know before purchasing. This will ensure that you don't waste your money and have realistic expectations. 1. Make sure you know the TDS/PPM (mg/L) of the water supply you'll be using. You don't want your supply's TDS to be above 350-ish. If it is, you're only going to get a couple washes before the filters are used up. If the TDS is too high the filters won't be able to remove enough dissolved solids to prevent water spotting, making the system a bit pointless and causing the filters to be used up in a single wash. If your supply has a high TDS rating, I recommend adding a pre-filter to bring the TDS down to a reasonable level. My city's TDS was almost 450, so I installed a whole-home 3-stage filtration unit for my house and ran a line to the resin filter. If you go to the expense of adding whole-home filtration, make sure to exclude your exterior water bibs - typically there's no need to filter those, and it'll save a lot of use on your 3-stage filters if you use your exterior bibs often. 2. Read the instructions - there is a bypass valve, and if you have it set to bypass you won't be using the filters and might get the impression that the system isn't working. 3. Rather than guessing or estimating how many washes you can get before a filter change, consider installing an inexpensive multi-jet (MJ) flow multi-jet flow meter on the output of the filter system. You can use that to determine exactly how many gallons/liters/etc. the filters can handle before needing to be replaced, avoiding potential water spots when the filters are used up. I recommend a multi-jet meter over a single-jet meter as they are more accurate. MJ meters can't handle as high of a flow rate, but you'll want to keep the flow rate down when using this system anyway. As for the system itself? It works great, and my back is happy with all the manual drying time that is avoided.

Disappointing initial performance - Updated 6/10/2025
I have always been happy with Waterdrop products so when I started my search for a DI water system for washing my car, I was immediately drawn to this setup. Using a TDS meter, I was able to determine that my city water was 159ppm. Unfortunately, this filter system was only able to bring the water down to 14ppm at 1.0 gpm which is a little disappointing. Additionally, when I received the filter, there was a large whole in the side of the box as it was not sufficiently packaged for shipping by Amazon. I will be trying this filter again on the next wash to see if I can flush out any contamination from manufacturing before deciding if I will return the filter setup for a different one. Update: After flushing the filters with 10 gallons of water, the PPM has now risen to 43 PPM @ 1.0gpm flow rate. The water coming out of the filter has become white and is very aerated. Extremely disappointed in the performance of this filter. I have tried to reach out to Waterdrop and have not received a response. Update 2: Waterdrop reached out to me and we were able to reach a solution. Great customer service. I have updated the rating to reflect the customer service experience despite the unsatisfactory performance of this filter.

Great idea, in theory
Do not buy, waste of money. Filter packs are $50, they lasted 8 gallons, EIGHT gallons!!! I paid $699 for an industrial DI resin tank, get 1200 gallons in summer and 1800 gallons in winter, and pay $70 to change it out. The bypass on this doesn’t understand how fluid dynamics work, you get vampiric leeching and wasting your filters because water still goes into the filters, via the water still going into the outlet of the filters.

So close, but misses the mark
Im a Waterdrop fan so I really wanted to like this spotless system, but unfortunately it falls short of perfection. Before getting into the cons let’s talk about the pro’s - this is the only car wash filter in the market that I’m aware of that comes pre-plumbed with a 3-way valve (unfiltered, filtered, and closed) so it saves you the time and cost of having to DIY a plumbing loop system. The other thing I liked is that they used high quality stainless steel piping and fittings to create the loop system which is a nice touch. Unfortunately this is where the pros end. Now to the downsides and why I ultimately can’t recommend it. First off, as others have mentioned it’s not compatible with pressure washers due to the 1GPM flow. This is a huge miss for their product & marketing team. Most people buying a spotless car wash system aren’t just using a garden hose and a bucket. I have an Active 2.0 pressure washer which pushes 1.8GPM max and with the stock Waterdrop system connected my pressure washer shuts off after a few seconds due to the lack of flow. That said, there is a way to make this work with pressure washers (including the active 2.0) which I’ll include at the end. The second downside to this system is the filter size. I’m not sure what Waterdrop was thinking with the size of this filter but you only get around 3 washes with mid to large size vehicles if your TDS is 250-375ppm. As another reviewer mentioned however, there are mods to expand the size which I plan to look into. 3rd thing I’ll mention which isn’t really a major issue - in its stock config the water flows through the system from right to left. In almost every RO/DI system I’ve ever owned the flow goes from left to right. Just something to keep in mind as you plan your setup. That said, if you plan to wall mount the system and need it to go left to right you can simply switch the mounting bracket around. The downside to doing this is it’ll make the 3-way valve face the wall but there’s enough room for your hands to easily get back there when toggling it. Final thoughts and DIY tips - Waterdrop really had the opportunity to potentially make the best spotless system on the market but they missed the mark. In its stock config I ONLY recommend this to people who DO NOT use a pressure washer for their final rinse and maybe wash their cars once every couple months. However if you do have a pressure washer and really want to make this work it is possible. Shout-out to reviewer @Ryan on this - but if you replace the waterdrop cartridge with a refillable one (I used the hydronix brand Ryan recommended) and fill it with mixed bed DI resin it DOES work with pressure washers. I’ve tested this with my active 2.0 (1.8GPM) and it worked perfectly and brought my 300+ ppm water down to 9ppm. Problem # 1 solved. Now to address the second problem, the small filters, I’ll be researching the mod to increase resin capacity. The obvious downside to modding is the added cost. For the Waterdrop system I paid full price ~$350 + $65 for the Hydronix cartridge and resin for a total of $415. If I do the larger cartridge mod it would likely bring the total above $500 since you need new housings as well. At that price it would be wiser to just buy a system already capable of high flow like the Spotless system. Hopefully Waterdrop takes this feedback and makes their next iteration better.
