Description

A group of post Civil War settlers make their way through the American landscape towards California, finding peril, heartbreak and redemption in the untamed frontier. Beginning in 1957, "Wagon Train" aired for eight seasons, with each episode focusing on a particular character. The three episodes on this disc are taken from the fifth and sixth seasons (1959-60).Episode 1 - Alias Bill Hawks:Assistant wagon master Bill Hawks makes an excursion to a desert town in search of an old friend. Upon arrival, he finds the man's property under the control of the townspeople, who are using the land to drill for precious water. Greeted with hostility, and given no decent explanation for the whereabouts of his Native American friend, Hawks begins to suspect some sort of conspiracy.Episode 2 - The Doctor Denker Story:The wagon train encounters a terrified boy who has just witnessed the murder of his father by a group of marauders. Young Billy is taken in by Bill Hawks and Flint, who endeavor to help him recover from his trauma. Bitter Civil War veteran Ed Beaufort attempts to help the boy by preaching the power of vengeance. After welcoming traveling musicologist Dr. Denker to the group, it seems Billy may have found an outlet for his grief in the joy of music; but when his true connection to Dr. Denker comes to light, Beaufort's belief in revenge may win out.Episode 3 - The Malachai Hobart Story:Duke has a chance meeting with Malachai Hobart, a man of God who preaches kindness and brotherly love. Parting ways with a glowing opinion of the charitable preacher, Duke soon learns that he is actually a con man using religious faith as a way to bilk believers out of money.

  • The selection of the episodes.
I love Wagon Train have been a big fan of this show for the first 5 years. I thought this time period was the best it was hard to pick out any one year. It had episodes from the 1st season to the 8th season mainly the first four seasons of this show which was the best. I loved the show with Ward Bond and Robert Horton and felt that the best stories when these two men were together it was a shame that Ward Bond died. Robert Horton carried on but when he left in the 5th season the show just wasn't good. ... show more

  • Where's Robert Fuller??
Where is Robert Fuller, who is advertised as being in these episodes?? The OLD "Wagon Train" is on TV's Encore Western channel every day! This is false advertising. I can't tell you how disappointed I am after buying this dvd and discovering I was duped. The last 2 seasons of "Wagon Train" featured the great actor Robert Fuller as Cooper Smith. The '63-'64 season were 90 minute episodes with awesome guest stars such as Barbara Stanwyck (before "Big Valley"), Suzanne Pleshette, Carolyn Jones, Carol Lawrence, Michael Rennie, I could go on and on. The '64-'65 season went back to 60 minute episodes for the last season of the series. I got to meet Robert Fuller at Apacheland Movie Studio near the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix (in 1965), and he is still one of the most beautiful and best actors in history. I bought this dvd solely because you advertised that the Robert Fuller episodes were on it, which they are not. Why would I buy a dvd when I can see these same episodes on tv 5 days a week for the last 2 years? The last 2 seasons were the best of the series. A couple of them are on Youtube, but it would be great if they were finally released on dvd. PLEASE change the advertising so people know what they are buying. P.S. Did you know that Robert Fuller was one of the dancers behind Marilyn Monroe when she sang "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"? Heads up, Mr. Fuller, you are being used to sell old "Wagon Train" episodes that are already on tv again for over 2 years. Please, someone release the BEST "Wagon Train" episodes, which are the last 2 seasons, not the tired, old black and white ones we've seen over and over. ... show more
