Am not a big shorts wearer. And I am overweight with a lot on my thighs and midsection. And 5'3". I was HOPING for a loose cargo short, reaching to the knee (since I'm short, like an almost-capri) and, well, a cotton material that's tough but softens up, lots of pockets, slouchy. Mostly to bang around the house in, maybe throw on at the beach. So, wary of shrinkage and this not being a national U.S. brand, I sized up from a 24 to a 26; in black with yellow tabs. IMO they are OK-ish, for shorts. For one thing, wouldn't say, they are a "generous" cut. The 26 fit my stomach and rear like a 24 - not super tight, but to be as loose as I hoped; or account for shrinkage, I'd need a 28. Which isn't offered. IMO a 24 on me would have been unbearable. The drawstring had no metal tabs - was just a wide shoe string, and wasn't long enough and got sucked into the waistline as I pulled these on (took some doing to find it again, and I just removed it). These hit above my knee and imagine on a taller person, obviously, they are higher on the leg. I did like the pockets tho; miss having back pockets (which I knew at purchase). I did like the "cotton canvas" type material, and generous stretchy elastic at the waist. Have no idea what the dangling cloth tape at the pocket bottoms is supposed to do, unless it's supposedly to awkwardly cinch the bottom pockets. Overall, for me not terrible; the material is good; pockets, good stitching. But I feel like I'd need to lose 20 lbs. for these to feel like I wanted (baggy/account for possible wash shrinkage). I'd buy another pair, maybe. But honestly after buying inexpensive hiking capri pants (and feeling as though they as well) - and some of these not-U.S. brands openly say to size up, I am feeling fatigued; and think I will be sticking to U.S. brands (even if the clothes are made internationally). I'm just tired of feeling like clothes are "cut small" even sizing up 2 times. Also, I find it disconcerting that the same shorts seem to be offered by multiple companies on Amazon. E.g., which company makes these, exactly? Obviously if you prefer a close fit, have a slim to regular build, and like shorts some of this may not be a problem. I'd even try buying another pair of these. If they were more generously cut, (and had a drawstring that looked like the images and was long enough), and maybe had re-thought some features like the lower pockets, I'd have bought multiple pairs. I think tho I will be heading back to brands like Lee, overall. This feels like a reasonable try at imitating a pricier brand like Columbia sportswear. Because when a brand says "loose fit" I expect it to fit, loosely, without having to size up 2 times. Certainly makes buying clothes an adventure.
