Ordered this 2 months ago to convert a lightweight aluminum cane into a standing cane. Seems the husband tends to hang regular canes over the backs of chairs and they are easy to forget or miss. Not so with the standing base to keep the cane right within arm's reach. Also makes a good reminder to use the cane when it's in plain sight. We have a cane with an assist handle, so making sure that handle is turned alongside one of the feet when installing is all it took to provide enough balance to allow the cane to freestand when not in use. The material is soft enough to flex so that the cane moves more naturally when striking the ground, but this does affect the freestanding ever so slightly (easier to knock over). The slight softness also allows for better traction versus a very hard plastic that would just slide along the ground. Overall, we would consider buying this in the future when it eventually wears out due to lots of use. If we find something just a tad wider, we might change it up ... but this is super close to the perfect product for us.

The design of this cane tip is very nice, compact size and flexible enough to reduce the impact of the tip especially on a hardwood floor. I have just begun using this tip but by the design and apparent quality of the tip I'm assuming it will be relatively durable in use. I would recommend it as you next replacement, or maybe just go ahead and replace your standard tip with this self-standing one. Update After reading a complaint about difficulty inserting the cane's shaft I have added this recommendation. Due to the tight fit of the socket be sure that the vent whole at the bottom of the cane socket is not covered by a thin film of rubber. This is designed so that you are not trying to compress the air in the socket. Use a nail or small diameter screwdriver and from the bottom of the cane tip push the nail through the center hole, look into the socket for the nail to have come through the rubber. Using a lite soapy solution to lubricate the socket and cane tip might help. Any excess water will be pushed out of the vent hole. The tip needs to be at room temperature so that it is at its most pliable condition.

With the stand-up attachment, the cane felt "mushy" rather than fiirm; didn't inspire confidence. It bobbled about before it settled; again causing me to doubt it purpose. Then, in a carpeted store it failed to stand tall and failed to make the cut to be a keeper for me.

I only wish I'd gotten this sooner. It's perfect, easy to put on and very stable. No more trying to secure my cane only to have it crash to the floor. Now all I do is let go of it to do whatever I'm doing and it's right there where I left it ready for my hand to take it. I love it.
