  • I like it but don't love it
Scent: Sandalwood Cedar Size: 5.3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I'm a fan of Viking Blade products in general. I've done a lot of research on the Chinese re-branding rumors regarding their razors but have found that those are outdated for some of their models. Couple that with the discounts you can get from Amazon (just watch the prices as they regularly increase and decrease) and you can get a well made product for a few dollars more than the clone counterparts. That being said, their shaving cream does leave something to be desired. The scent is very strong and can be a little cloying for some. While I'm still trying to figure out the right balance of water to cream ratio, overall, it offers a nice amount of slickness without the need for pre-shave oil. So far, this cream has resulted in a closer shave with little to no nicks. However, I find that my skin is reacting to the cream in certain areas. Mainly I notice more redness in my neck area and some raised redness around my jaw line that eventually goes away. This is something I've not noticed using Cremo with Lather & Wood pre-shave oil. But this product is noticeably better for smooth shaving as you can get quite a few passes using a very small amount of product. Now that I'm back to work, after being furloughed, I can afford to experiment with better products. I wouldn't say that this is my end all be all. I am curious to see if that redness is specifically with this product, by trying others. I have been shopping around Amazon for other shave creams and have managed to find some deeply discounted ones to try. I will update. Currently I'm using a Vikings Blade Chieftain with Viking mild blades. Update: Tried Chiseled Face brand shave soap that is far superior. I got the closest shave yet and no irritation, redness, or breakout. I tried both with pre-shave oil this time and Vikings Blade just doesn't cut it (literally) . Returning. ... show more

  • Not what I expected in so many ways.....
Scent: Sandalwood Cedar Size: 5.3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
EDIT: I am not going to deduct a star from this product review, but after a month of use, I find that I am completely bone dry. I think this shaving cream is vastly superior to the standard tub fare, but it certainly does not last as long. So, $20 a month is a bit pricey for a month's worth of shaves in my opinion. I happened upon this product by sheer mistake. Actually, I was looking to see if one of my favorite shaving soaps was available on Amazon. Usually, I have to buy it directly from the vendor. During my search, THIS product came up. The reviews were very favorable. I thought, "Okay, let me try this one instead." The tub is the same size as my favorite soap, which I found to be very nice. There is an ample amount of product inside. When I opened the tub for the first time, I was a bit upset. There was not the usual "soap" I was accustomed to inside. Instead, it was cream -- like the Noxema type you would rub into your face. Now, I have spent my years of wet shaving using the kind of soap you dip your brush into and swirl around for about 30 seconds before adding the brush to a cup of water. This is a completely different animal. You kind of have to take your brush and dip it into the cream, just taking a little bit away. You then put the brush in a cup, add a few drops of hot water and lather it up. Again, I wasn't very happy about this process at the onset. However, after a few days of figuring out the right amount of cream to apply and the amount of water to add, I have been getting a tremendous lather. Best of all --- and this is THE BEST OF ALL -- this soap outperforms my other brand (which is Krampfert's Frostbite Shaving Soap). The reason why I love this soap is that it has a better lubing effect to it. The blade slides across the face without any effort. It's like my face was given a grease job (without the grease effect) and I can run a blade without it suddenly stopping and giving me a nick. Whether this will last as long as my other "soap" brand, I don't know. It's just a different experience for me and it seems I can get a lot of lather from a very little amount of cream. The scent? It's negligible. I get more scent from my aftershave than I do with this product. However, scent is not something that is at the top of my list. I would highly recommend that you try this product. I think it really does a better job on lubing the face than other soap dish products I have tried. ... show more

  • Needs more lube
Scent: Sandalwood Cedar Size: 5.3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
We have all heard that before, right guys? But usually not when we're talking about shaving. I have been using art of shaving brand soap and Taylor of Old Bond street since 2006. For the first time, I started using this brand and I am not pleased. This brand smells better, and it makes my face feel smoother after a shave. But even with a new Fusion blade, it feels like I need more lubrication. If you use three or five blade razors, you are a custom to having the lube strip. And after a number of shares, there's no more lube and there is a bit more friction on your face. So the difference between this brand of shaving soap and Taylor or art of shaving is that this brand feels like there is less lubrication in the product. Also, this brand is wet so it feels fluffier, and needs to be whipped up more frequently then the other brands. So overall, I do not see it as a superior product, even though it costs 25% more. I do like the marketing however. UPDATE: The company sent me an email explaining that this is a "surfectant" product, and is designed to dry on your face. I tried it, and it made a big difference, but it was still not as "Lubey" as the other products I have tried. That improvement got them another star. I still use Taylor of Old Bond Street when it matters how I look, though. ... show more

1/4 tsp is plenty for a full shave. Smells great and goes a long way. I'll be buying more for sure.
