  • Great Upgrade. Big and Heavy.
The picture settings out of the box and how bulky this monitor is, is why I’m giving it a 4/5 stars. This is a great monitor to upgrade from 60hz. Having the option to try 144hz then boost that up to 240hz is a nice treat. Like many other monitor reviews, there’s always some complaints about the color balance. I haven’t messed directly with the color settings, but I did change the brightness/contrast settings on the monitor. As well as the Gamma setting in the Nvidia Control panel. Which helped a lot with getting a more balanced color out of the monitor. No real problem there other than a few hours of trial and error. This monitor also has the blue light filter, which does effect the color, gives the screen that ‘warm’ color tone. The picture quality and brightness work really well for gaming or productivity, or just watching a movie. It has all the features you’d want to use this monitor for a long period of time and is very flexible with the settings. Pros: 1. Good refresh rate options that work properly. 2. Good amount of customization to tune the colors and contrast to what you want. Cons: 1. Heavy. This thing is not meant to be moved. 2. The base stand is a little longer than I would’ve liked. 3. The left-to-right rotation is not a full 90. If it was, I’d have more room on my desk by having the base sideways and the screen facing forward. Outside of some minor hindsight issues like I mentioned, this will do the job really well. Just be sure you have a large enough desk and you don’t plan to move this monitor around. ... show more

  • Seriously just BUY IT ALREADY!! (25 inch 240hz G-Sync version)
EDIT: Original review date: August 7th, 2018. This edit update is on June 5th, 2020. I just wanted to quickly drop in to say this monitor is still going strong, i have had zero issues with it, literally no problems, and i love it just as much as the day i got it. Reason i wanted to update is to say nowadays, there ARE more options in this price range. I do however, strongly recommend that you consider this monitor when shopping, almost 2 years with it, and it is still perfect! Start of ORIGINAL REVIEW written on August, 7th 2018: Let me start off by saying that $400-$500 for a computer/gaming monitor is by no means cheap. I was specifically looking for a 240hz G-sync monitor, so that I could use my overclocked GTX 1070 Ti to it’s full potential. And if you take a good, long look at what the market has to offer right now, you would conclude the same thing that I did, that there really arnt many options to choose from that had everything that I was looking for. I believe I had 5 options, one of them which did not have G-Sync nor even free sync for that matter. The monitor that I almost purchased, and by almost I mean I was on the “complete order” page about 10 times just staring at it, was the Alienware 240 hz display, but with free sync, solely due to the great price at the time. To be 100% honest, I saw this monitor from the very beginning, I just basically told myself it wasn’t even an option because I’ve never owned ViewSonic before, and right before I was about to click that finish order button for the Alienware monitor, within 30 seconds I said forget it, added this to my cart and clicked finish order as fast as I could to prevent anymore hesitation, and let me tell you I am beyond happy that I did. Right out of the box, the colors are a bit off and it honestly doesn’t look that great. But once you calibrate it and everything, this is an extremely beautiful TN panel. I seriously love everything about this monitor, my ONLY gripe with it, which is completely subjective, is the menu. I find the menus to be a little tedious and annoying, not difficult, but annoying to navigate. But once I calibrated the settings and all that, i haven’t had to enter the menu since, so there’s no way I’m going to take a star off due to that. If any of you are in the market for exactly what i was looking for, please do yourself a favor and just pick this monitor up. This is the cheapest 240 hz, G-Sync monitor on the market, but it sure as heck performs and looks like the most expensive one, honestly. Like I stated earlier, I almost bought the AW free sync monitor due to the cheap price, but for only 75$ more (at the time) I opted for this 240hz, G-sync View Sonic. That is seriously unheard of. G-Sync costs much more than just $75 extra, in the hundred(s) even. I am telling you, and please listen to me since there really isn’t many more reviews out there for this monitor so you really don’t have much of a choice, just purchase this monitor and make yourself and your wallet, extremely happy. There is no such thing as perfect anything, but gosh darnet this thing is about to cross that line into perfection. I really hope this has helped you make a decision. Feel free to ask me some questions if you’d like, I know it’s a huge purchase and big decision. But it’s a good one, this thing is so future proof, I won’t need a monitor for a very long time! Thanks for reading, hope it helped :) ... show more

  • Worked for the first four months... Company from Hell.
My initial out of the box thoughts were amazing. What a beautiful monitor. The colors were great, I found the quality to be very structurally sound, doesn't feel like a cheap "gamer-y" monitor with obnoxious styling like most. This is also my first official gaming monitor, so I was delighted to see it standing up well to the high price tag. However, about four months into owning the monitor, it no longer would function properly at high refresh rates (or anything above 60hz for that matter, far from the advertised 240hz., couldn't even handle 144hz, and I have a more than capable GPU). The screen would continuously black out and flicker, with a message in the upper right hand corner that looked to indicate that the display port cable was not functioning properly. I purchased a new display port cable. This did not resolve the issue. I tried other display port outlets on my GPU. This also did not resolve the issue. I dealt with it for a while, until the center pixel shift started occurring. I have tried using other monitors to confirm it isn't my own hardware. It isn't. It's a little hard to explain, but, basically, this error consisted of a line of pixels down the exact center of the monitor being displaced to the far left hand side. This occurred with G-sync on or off, high or low refresh rate, high or low graphics settings on the monitor, after power cycling, etc. etc. So I thought, okay, time to send it in. I reached out to customer support and had to wait five days (wow) to receive an email suggesting I power cycle the machine (no surprise, it didn't work). The next day, I sent it in according to their RMA process. The website says the process can take 10-15 days upon receipt of the monitor, and offers a nice link to check the status of the repair. This is cool and all, but for the entirety of the 10 day RMA process, my monitor's status was listed as "Awaiting repair" until one day, it was just sent back. I even called Viewsonic to ask for more details on it, which I did not receive. I finally received the monitor back (over a month after my first correspondence with the company), and opened the box to reveal the exact same monitor I sent in with no (visible) changes made to it and the error persisted. I called in, requesting to know what was actually done to the monitor, and the phone representative told me he couldn't answer that (I'll take this as they didn't do anything, for lack of better evidence). After waiting so long to have a working monitor that I paid quite alot for, I was pretty frustrated. Eventually, after telling me my money couldn't be refunded, the phone representative offered to send me a fresh monitor in advance so long as I send this one back in (and they offered to cover shipping), which I have agreed to do. I have not yet received the new monitor, should it prove satisfactory, I will update my review accordingly. Although the company has some very nice and understanding individuals working for it, everyone I talked to on the phone handled my issue expertly and considerately, I am incredibly dissatisfied by their lack of transparency as well as their untimely resolution (or lack thereof) of my issue. I am excited to receive a new monitor, however I have lost all confidence in this company. Maybe my issue was a freak incident, sure, but to be unable to respond in a timely fashion, not offer updates on my repair process, and send me back a monitor that is still broken without being able to inform me what they actually did to "repair" my monitor (a simple "we didn't do anything" would have sufficed), I have lost all confidence in this company and will most likely not be purchasing from them again. EDIT as of 4/9/19: I have just received the new monitor. All works great, haven't experienced any issues. I suppose we'll see in four months time, though. But of course, not even this could be easy. The monitor they sent me didn't come with the base of the stand, the part that you actually need to sit the monitor on the desk. I've just about had it with this running joke of a company. Called them and told them the situation, so they told me I could keep the old stand base from the previous monitor before I send it in. I told them to please note this so that I won't be charged when they receive the old monitor without the stand, and they assured me I won't be charged (hopefully they can at least get that right). Glad this journey is finally (?) over, but man, receiving an incomplete product replacement was the final nail in the coffin. Not even angry at this point, just laughing. Maybe I'm just the most unlucky Viewsonic customer in the world, but man, this is really, truly, absurd. ... show more
