Charged ready to use right out of the box 2 speeds. And the low speed was really good. Didn't even need to use the high. Obviously it hurts and gets some getting use to. I ordered this mainly for regular hair removal on my legs and underarms, and it does pull the hair from the root. If you have never used an epilator before, prepare yourself because this thing is PAINFUL. I am not going to sugarcoat that. It is definitely not for the faint of heart! The 18-tweezer head grabs the hair, but I found that it wasn't 100% effective and missed quite a few hairs. I tried moving it slowly against the direction of hair growth, which seemed to work best, but after a while the pain became too much and I just couldn't keep going. At that point, I had to call it quits and deal with the hairs it missed another way. The two speed settings are useful. I preferred the lower speed for my underarms and the higher speed for larger areas like my legs. The built-in light is also helpful because it makes fine hairs easier to see. The battery lasted through my grooming session, and I like the digital display because I can see how much power is left. The removable head is easy to clean and can be rinsed off. My other issue was irritation. I ended up with quite a few little bumps after using it, which wasn't something I was thrilled about. So while it is convenient, rechargeable, and does remove hair from the root, it wasn't a great match for me. Between the pain, the irritation, and the number of hairs it missed, I just couldn't make myself continue using it. If you are already an experienced epilator user and have a higher pain tolerance than I do, you may have a different experience. For me, this was definitely a case of beauty requiring WAY too much suffering

I've gotten several VGR products so far, and I've had great experiences with all of them. This epilator is a great little compact, rechargeable battery-operated device for a ridiculously cheap $24. If you go with any of the big brands, you're going to be spending way more than this (some are up to $200). Even the cheapest one you can find might be about this price, but it'll be plug-in only, and this gives you the convenience of the rechargeable battery. The epilator head has 18 tweezers built in. That's not the widest head you can get, but at this price point (and with it being cordless and USB-C charging and waterproof and having additional accessories), it's totally reasonable. The only downside is that because it's not as wide as some of the more expensive epilators, it will take more passes to cover your shaving area. That's not a huge deal to me. Does the epilator hurt? Well, sure. Just like waxing or anything that yanks hairs out of your body hurts. But for the first time, I did a smallish patch and then took a break before continuing. After the first time, it hurts a little less, and lesser still as time goes on. That first time is a little rough but the result is worth it, IMO. If you wax, you can handle this for sure. And this leaves all of your skin attached to your body afterward, and you don't have a pile of messy wax and weird stick wax strands on everything in your bathroom afterward, so I'm a fan. I also like that it has a travel lock on it if you want to use it. When you receive it and try to turn it on, you push and hold the power button for the countdown. Then it will unlock so you can use it. It won't auto-lock, which I appreciate because that would be annoying every time, but if you ever want to lock it for travel, you can just hold the power button for the countdown again and it'll lock. This charges with USB-C and the battery lasts a very long time. I'm sure I could epilate my entire body at least a couple of times on one charge. Take the charge cable with you on vacation if you want to, but I can't imagine you would need to if it had a full charge when you left. The only part about this that didn't totally meet expectations for me is the LED light. It's there, but it's not super bright, so I didn't feel like it provided any advantage at all in a regular daylight situation. I was kind of hoping it'd be like the Dyson green LED thing on their vacuums that lights up every bit of dust and hair so you can grab it more effectively, but it's just a regular little white LED. Maybe if your bathroom is super shadowy and dark, it would help. For me, in a regular light situation, I didn't think it really gave me anything additional. I don't care about that feature so much, and the other features are great, so I didn't dock any stars for that.

This epilator works well and removes hair effectively. The compact size makes it easy to hold and use on smaller areas. I like having two speed settings so I can start at a more comfortable pace. It has been a convenient alternative to dealing with razors or wax. The built-in LED light and battery display are useful touches. The light helps a little with seeing fine hairs, and the display makes it easy to know when it needs charging. USB charging is convenient, especially since it is cordless. The washable head also makes cleanup simple. My only real complaint is that it is louder than my previous epilator. It is not unusable, but the sound is definitely noticeable while it is running. Since it works well, the extra noise is something I can live with. It is still a practical little hair-removal device for home or travel.

I've never tried an epilator before so I don't have anything to compare it to. I found this epilator to work well. It hurts but I expected it would have to because you're pulling the hair out by the root. I have pretty light hair and it's not coarse. It pulled my hair out and did a good job leaving my skin smooth. I used it on low speed the entire time. I know most epilators I've looked at before cost a lot more so I really didn't expect this one to work as well as it did. So for the price, it's a bargain.

Unfortunate, I liked it the first time I used it. But second time, plastic gear inside broke and now it won't turn tweezer head. Return policy says I could be charged back for returning a damaged product. So guess I'm stuck with this broken junk.
