I'm not following what others are complaining about. especially given the price. Perhaps the design has changed recently, not sure. I read something about cheap C-clamps that were included. I didn't get any C-clamps. Perhaps they were for clamping to unit to a bench rather than using the mounting holes. The cost of the metal to make one would be nearly $150. It's 65 lbs of heavy metal for bending metal. I didn't push it in terms of thickness of material, but it bent the metal I needed to bend. The bending leaf (the part that hinges to bend metal) has a welded angle iron bar to reinforce it, making it strong. The handles (to operate the bending leaf) are about a 1ft long, enough to provide the leverage needed. It has 4 mounting holes for securing it to a bench. But I didn't need to mount it to use it for what I needed. It was easy to assemble, and easy to use. It did have a little oil on it, which likely is to prevent rusting during inventory storage and shipping. I would say that it's NOT designed for daily use. That is, it uses thumbscrews to clamp the workpiece. Those are slower to adjust (to bite down on the work piece) as compared to a cam clamping design. However, if you don't have a lot of projects, and are willing to work with the design of the bender (dealing with the thumbscrews), then it works well. If you're in need of brake for daily use unit, spend the money on a better design. The one suggestion for improvement would be to include perhaps a durable clear plastic bag large enough to store it once assembled (while not in use). The box is too small (once assembled) to hold the unit, and it's likely subject to rusting if stored in a garage, a shed, or a workshop lacking climate control. Quick tip - use a speed square on the out feed or in feed of the material to help ensure you're getting a square bend. Overall, I think it's a good value for $150. ... show more

This brake worked great for bending flashings for my roof and was cheaper than paying a local shop to do the job. Now I have a brake in my shop if I need it. There are a few improvements I would make if I were going to use it often like a better paint job and replacing the wing nuts with a tee handle like I have seen on some more expensive ones. ... show more

Works could use modifications. I got this to bend 24 gauge sheet metal, with that thought in mind.... These modifications would be like other low star reviews have said. The wing nuts they supply to hold the clamping bar down are a joke when bending 24 gauge. I use pliers and that works, however I ordered a set of bolts 12mm x 40mm x 1.75 pitch that have a 10mm allen style hex head. I also ordered 10mm allen wrenches that have a T handle. Another reviewer had a great idea to weld a T handle onto the wing but but I fear that it could interfere with the bending plate if I where to bend different sized metals. The allen headed bolt and T hex can fit in a position that would not interfere. The second thing when bending 24 gauge is the center of the clamping area can not hold it in place. For this I used a clamp along the center bar. That works unless you are bending a chunk that would extend into the clamp, then the bar alone may do the job ok. This being said I like it and I was able to bend 24 gauge sheet metal so it worked out for me. ... show more

The quality is not great / poor welds, misaligned plates and mine was pretty rusty when it showed up. That being said i was able to reweld and reinforce unit to work. Really a 2 star product but the price gets another star. If you can fabricate and can see the obvious problems and solutions it will work as advertised. ... show more
