It is not packaged very well, and the cast iron hand wheel came broken. Handling during shipping must be too rough for the way it is packaged. Had to order a new hand wheel. Also, I may bore out the casting that works the ratchet and holds the handle. It is a bit loose on the large gear toothed shaft that operates the ram and flops around too much. I might machine and press in a thin bushing into that casting to create a new bearing surface that is a better fit. Or, as a pattern maker, I might just make a whole new iron casting and machine it properly. I think with some modifications, it might work very well. But it's not perfect right out of the box. ... show more

Dripping paint, both black and red, the red no 1 was like some kid painted it. Semi rusted spots. On the whole it works so far but I would not buy again, would rather spend more and get something more professional looking out of the box.

You have to screw or build something to secure it to a tabletop. Even then it's very limited to it's power, my hand a a pair of pliers is stronger and cheaper. I recommend a vice 🗜️ that can be tightened because this is only as strong as your weight pressure... So half ton is wrong you would have to weigh a half ton for it to press something with that much Force. I was scammed by the half ton discription. But it's not a vice so it doesn't stay down on what you're pressing. You let go it stops pressing period!! ... show more

The shipping crate this arrived in looked like it had fallen off a truck. The bottom was cracked and caved it, and two of the compressed wood fiber feet were gone. The bolts holding the press in the crate were bent. I thought for sure when I pried open the crate I’d find several pieces of cast iron. But- surprise! - everything was intact. The press was in one piece, the bag with the drifts was intact, the lever was still there, and the instruction manual- more of a pamphlet- was in damaged. This is a massive chunk of iron, about 85 pounds of it, according to the seller, and it’s as crude as anything you’ll find coming out of a Chinese ironworks. The sand castings are very roughly finished, the machined surfaces could use a few hours of filing, and the paint looks like it was applied with a mop. But everything works. The ram doesn’t rock around too much (although it could use some work). The bottom is reasonably flat. It’s cheaper than any used US-made arbor press, and cheaper than most Chinese imports. If you’re outfitting a home machine shop or auto shop on a budget, you could do worse. ... show more

Eighty-six pounds of PURE INDUSTRY! that works exactly as advertised and is affordable. Before ordering this arbor press, I was reading some other reviews; one that stuck with me complained because it had arrived with grease on it. Please. It's an industrial, ferrous metal beast of a machine made for smashing and mashing three tons of pressure with only a modicum of physical participation from its operator. And then there was the complaint that its model number was inexpertly painted on its side. Please. It's difficult to imagine an expert calligrapher traipsing the floor of a cast iron forging operation, but hey, I don't mean to crush anyone's dreams here. Perhaps I sound defensive of this thing — okay, I'll admit: It was love at first sight, an instant lifetime bond. And what I love most about this arbor press is that it IS a big, greasy, oily, sharp-edged, dangerous beast so heavy to ship it has to be crated. I even love the below-average display of penmanship on it's name badge ... which I will eventually correct with loving care because I am, in fact, an ad hoc calligrapher. ... show more

This is not a pretty tool. Not by any means at all. But, man is it functional as heck. I have no fear of this thing busting any time. And, it works great at pressing!. Be prepared to grab a dolly or a friend when you bring it inside though.
