I’ve been wearing Vasque Sundowner hiking boots since 1995. At first I was disappointed because I couldn’t find them online. But the St. Elias boots looked very similar, so I ordered a pair. Turns out either Vasque changed the name of the boot, or they created a twin. Super comfortable, fit like a glove, provide superior ankle support. Best of all, the seams inside the boot are seen in such a way as you do not feel them. At all. Very grippy sole provide good traction. This is my third pair of Vasque St Elias hiking boots. The first two were superb. The latest pair are not of the same quality at all even though the price went up. Plastic eyelets for laces, construction not as robust, etc. Also they do fit a bit narrower than my prior pair(s)(Size 9 1/2 W) but not so much that I can't use them. I will keep these but I will be looking for something else in the future. ... show more

I finally went ahead and ordered these because I have the previous model of the St. Elias and they're getting old now after about six or seven years of farm work. The original boot was beyond fantastic and exceeded my expectations for years - I previously owned Asolo, which fell apart. The price on the new model is much more than I paid for the original but I could tell immediately that quality was sacrificed in materials on this version. Gain customer loyalty by putting out a superior product, attracting a following, then reducing overhead on material costs while increasing the retail price... you've lost a customer in me Vasque. The eyelets are cheap and weak compared to the original boot. The leather appears to be plastic compared to the full grain of the previous boot. The padding on the ankle appears to be thinner by nearly half compared to the original boot. I would have paid the price if the boot had not changed, but you've done the boot a disservice.
