I have had plenty of Vasagle products and I typically go with the dark wood option but this time I went with the black option and my finish has some weird oil looking stain throughout it that will not go away, other than that, pretty sturdy per the usual from this brand.

I like this desk, BUT as my bf and I were putting it together, going by the manual.. the holes were not lining up with the long board, we thought we did it backwards with the other board, but we were right the first time. We couldn't find any video tutorials, so I am going to say that it seems it's faulty on the company's end, I had to buy a powerdrill just so that I could drill holes myself into the board for the desk.. abit frustrating and I see that it's very common with the reviews, so hopefully manufactuer will try to fix that problem soon ): ... show more

I bought this desk and a smaller version of this desk from the seller. I assembled the smaller desk first. There are no written directions, just 4 small pictures with some arrows. I studied it carefully and was able to follow along with the pictures, desk went together amazing. THIS desk also only had 4 small pictures with arrows, even though its twice as complicated. Maybe that's where it goes wrong. The last step is to install the desk top to the frame. Even though I followed the directions in exactly the same way as I did for the smaller desk, with the larger desk the screw holes did not at all align with the openings on the frame base. I didn't have time or space to take it everything apart, turn over the desk tops and see if there was a way to rebuild the frame in a way that would line up with the screw holes. So I said f it and used a few #10x 2 inch wood screws and my power drill to screw through the frame holes into the wood top. 2" wood screws work perfectly and don't poke through the top. (#10x refers to the size of the circle head of the screw. I first tried #8x and those were too small, they went through the frame hole openings) Even with my Frankenstein solution, I'm still really pleased with this desk, it's incredibly sturdy, the thick metal frame is really strong but not too heavy. With the wood screws the desk top is solidly secured. The price is amazing for the product quality. I have one general assembly tip that this manufacturer did not include but is true for most furniture assemblies: When you're putting it together, don't screw in anything fully tightened until the end. You'll need the pieces to have some give as you slot them in together and line them up. At the end, in this case before securing the top, you can then go around and fully tighten all the screws, making 2 rounds if necessary. ... show more

I needed a less expensive replacement for an older desk of mine, and I clicked buy on this one. I am not disappointed. This is a very solid desk, and has a lip for my dual monitor mount. I expect this to last many, many years.

    • Great desk for the price, but don't make the same mistake I did

Don't be like me and assume that the desk is reversible! I didn't do my research before building and assumed the L shape could go in either direction, but that is not the case. I ended up with a top wood panel that would not fit on the top of the desk because I assembled the frame "backwards". I was able to remedy this by drilling out new holes in the wood myself. If you don't want to drill it out yourself, make sure you follow the directions to the letter. The desk is very easy to build. The instructions recommend having 2 people to assemble it, which is helpful but not at all necessary. I was able to build it by myself without much hassle at all. It includes everything you need to build it, but you may want to opt for using your own screwdriver as the included one is small and uncomfortable. The build quality is quite good for the price. The wood is sturdy and the legs feel solid. Everything fits together snugly and it looks great when it's completed. The desk size is perfect for me, it has room for my computer setup with ample extra room for whatever projects I may be working on at the time. The monitor shelf is a nice touch. The only real issue I had with the desk is the position of a couple of the bolt holes on the monitor shelf arms are positioned in way that it's very hard to get a screwdriver in there. Didn't end up being a massive issue however, and I was able to complete construction of the desk. Overall I have no complaints about this desk. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better one in this price range. It doesn't include a lot of bells and whistles (ie drawers), but it's perfect for people who need a simple, sleek-looking desk. ... show more

    • Great desk! Smaller than it seems in pictures, but the dimensions are there, so measure.

This desk is awesome, especially for the $110 I paid for it. My thought was that if the particle board looked bad, I would at least have the steal frame, which is worth $110 on its own. Well, the particle board looks great and feels sturdy. I have a real oak dresser from the 70s that it matches almost perfectly and you have to get very close to see that one is wood and one is screenprinted plastic over particle board. The desk was easy to put together and the instructions were super clear. I'm not sure why other reviewers said they weren't, but maybe the company heard them and updated the instructions. The one thing that everybody says to do, which is a bit unclear in the instructions, is to start by screwing everything in about half way. This is probably the primary difference between it being easy or really frustrating. Once it's completely assembled, screw everything together tightly. Remember, you're screwing into particle board or a thin layer of steel, so don't overdo it and strip your medium. It just needs to be snug. This desk is one of the best purchases I've made on Amazon out of hundreds of purchases. Compared to Home Depot, Office Max...etc. desks that are 3 times as much, this is much better quality, and unlike desks that use particle board for the structure, the steel frame on this can be reused long after the particle board is beat up and used.
