As a longtime fan of zero-drop shoes, it’s been a matter of perpetual frustration that most are made by athletic brands, with correspondingly garish designs and nosebleed prices that make them unsuitable for daily wear. Enter Vans, which have been here all along. These shoes have a simple, clean look that lets them go with any casual outfit, and they seem well-made while still being comparatively inexpensive. In terms of comfort, Vans do OK. They’re a bit heavy and firm underfoot, and unfortunately the insoles are not removable so can’t be replaced with better ones. However, these are fairly wide, high-volume shoes, so they can usually still accommodate a set of added low-profile insoles for arch support (which is otherwise entirely lacking). The wide, flat white laces they come with are long enough for a heel-lock lacing scheme, which helps prevent blisters, but a sticker on the bottom of one shoe warns that color transfer could occur. This means those laces likely won’t stay pristine white for long and may need replacing sooner rather than later. Still, that’s a minor whinge about an overall decent shoe that will get plenty of wear. ... show more

    • Safer shoes that are actually comfortable
Size: 9 Color: Suede/Canvas Gothic Grape
I am an 8.5 in women's but I got a 9 in this shoe so I could be assured that wearing thicker socks this winter with them wouldn't cramp my toes. I'm glad I did because Vans are meant to be tighter fitting shoes (being skater shoes) so the last they're made on are lower profile, generally speaking, for more 'grip.' These shoes are made of canvas and a few patches of matching suede material, are very well made and break in quickly, within a few hours of wear. The heel grips are comfortable and overall the shoes seem durable. I am middle aged, have a shallow foot profile, and the bottoms of my feet are regularly quite sore. The insoles of these Vans are not removeable BUT they are thin enough that you can easily slip in a very thin gel insole. There is NO arch support in these shoes, and that is precisely why I got them- I have flat feet which are sensitive to the arch support nonsense most shoe makers put in their products nowadays. I can't stand them, it's like walking with a boulder shoved up on the side of my foot. These Vans do not have that. They allow full foot spread (IF you size them correctly!) and are created with a sharp 90 degree edge on the outer sole so there will be no pronating or supinating or toe walking allowed. Safer shoes!! I feel like my entire foot has the sole under it, not just 90% of it, like in other sneakers. You don't feel the edges of the insole with these shoes. ... show more

The pictures of the checkered print Vans do not reflect what they look like in person 100%. The print is washed out and almost non-existent. I now see that other reviewers have commented this, and believe it may be the style. Aside from the faded print, I like everything else about these shoes. Great Vans quality like you would expect. I've never had a problem with their shoes and I think my problem with these is simply because I did not see them in person first. ... show more

Omg I LOVE these!!! I have never in my life owned a pair of vans before and wasn’t really a fan of them to be honest but something changed in me this summer and I made the purchase. I can’t believe it took me this long to buy a pair of vans oh how I have missed out they are so comfortable and adorable. They are cute and go with everything. The quality is impeccable and slip resistant. They are true to size! I’m an 8 and I bought an 8. The fit is like a glove. I now own 3 pairs of these, in black, navy and white! Getting red asap!! I bought these with a birthday gift card and I absolutely love them! They are true to size, as I am a 7.5 medium typically, and I even like a wider toe box sometimes. These were spot on at 7.5, no pinching on the toe at all. So I wore them today for the first time, and was running errands. I had a dr appt first, and the intake nurse was obsessed with them! Here I am, 60 years old (but a hip-stylish and youthful 60 😬) and she was in her mid 20’s.. She wanted to know where I found them! Then on the way out of the clinic, a woman older than me stopped me to compliment me on my shoes too! If that wasn’t enough, I stopped by TJ Maxx on my way home, and a gentleman, probably not much older than the nurse earlier stopped me to compliment my Vans! He said he had never seen them in this color and material! I told him Amazon and he said he was gonna look specifically for them! I have never had an item of clothing get so much attention! Haha.. Definitely made my day! Now go and get them!! ... show more
