  • Better than you'd expect
Having used Akai and Roland wind synths that cost 10x the price, I came in with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. Sure, a lot of the built in sounds are bad (a lot of the woodwind sounds have this forced vibrato you can't get rid of), the fingering system takes a bit getting used to, and the build quality isn't the best, but you could say the same things about wind synths that cost exponentially more. It functions as a MIDI controller, so you can hook it up to external equipment or a computer and make it sound like anything you want (although I think it's stuck on MIDI channel 1, so be aware). You get the basics. 35 sounds, basic things like transpose, different fingering models, very basic reverb, rudimentary pitch bend, breath sensitivity. It's not a pro performance instrument by any means, but it's not trying to be. It's a little guy you can pick up and have fun with or toss in a bag and take with you, but I've found it's a surprisingly useful tool. ... show more

  • Awful
These EWI's will never duplicate the real thing. They forever have this semi hissing/gurgling sound over the somewhat mechanical sounding tones. I've tried just about all of the reasonable to mid to higher range. They are good for apartment living because you can play them with headphones, but short on sound. The most frustrating thing and clincher of ever buying another one of these is never getting above the high D. It ends there. Left finger lifted, rest down (as in recorder) then the octave button underneath. It just made everything higher without the next key in succession . It's very hard to explain, but it's not fingered like a flute, recorder or anything else to my knowledge. The fact that I can't go up the scale in succession of raising my fingers without it stopping at high D is baffling to me. I have read the "instructions". Still no luck. I'm done with these things. It will sit in my drawer till I give it away or throw it out. ... show more

I bought this for fun . Turns out to be a very good EWI instrument. Nice and compact to put in your travel bag. Only issue was how to turn on the Blue tooth. Press the FG key and hold it then the Blue tooth can be turned on and off. Works great with my iphone.

Works well. I like the soprano sax sound. I'm a guitar player and this satisfies my need sustain.
