  • Very sharp versatile easy to use knife, cuts very well, just keep skin away from blade
This is for the 5 inch utility knife. I was expecting this knife to just be decent/okay as far as sharpness goes, not too sharp not too dull but this knife is actually very, very sharp. Works perfectly for cutting almost everything I need from fruits and vegetables to cutting off the tape from Amazon boxes I receive if I can't find my scissors. Just be very careful with the blade, keep your fingers and hands as far from the blade as possible, don't take any crazy risks or you'll be cleaning up a bloody mess but that's a given with any sharp knife right? While this knife is very good for cutting smaller things it's not so great for cutting thick cuts of meat like a brisket for example in my case. It can still get the job done for cutting thicker meats but I would suggest purchasing some kind of knife that specializes in cutting meat, which I need to do but I knew it wasn't a meat cutting knife anyway. Highly recommend this knife for cutting fruits, vegetables and most other smaller cutting tasks, definitely got my money's worth. Also recommend getting the KitchenIQ blade sharpener to keep that great blade sharp once it starts to dull which mine hasn't done and I've been using it every day for a good month or two. ... show more

  • Perfect for a professional dishwasher and at-home users
This is the best knife in my restaurant’s kitchen, hands-down. My boss will continuously give us crappy knives that are dull. Not only is a dull knife a pain to use, it’s also going to cause a lot of pain when it slips and gouges your finger open. One day I cut off the a small part of my finger tip with one of these crap knives and bled everywhere. So, pissed off I rushed to amazon. I tried zyliss knives before, they’re decent but can sometimes rust. Victorinox knives are great too but I went out on a limb and tried this. Not only does it look amazing when it’s completely black, it’s my best knife. Dishwashers often have to cut tons of vegetables for prep. Using crap knives will make it a lot worse and and this is definitely not crap. I can tell it’s good when it’s the knife they go for every time. Not my purple 5-inch zyliss, or my small red victorinox, not the crap knives my boss buys. 9 times out of 10 they reach for this one. And I don’t blame them, it’s amazing. Just make sure to sharpen it once in a while with a work sharp sharpener or a whetstone. Those pull-through sharpeners just don’t work that well in my experience. Do that about once a month and you have yourself a cheap yet amazing knife. I was amazed with it months ago and I’m still amazed by it now. It was lost by a coworker so I’m now going to buy a set of them since I want a larger knife for cutting onions, and a smaller one for small vegetables. I recommend this of victorinox, both companies know how to make a solid knife. If victorinox doesn’t sound familiar, their founder invented the swiss army knife so trust me, those people know what they’re doing. I’m still just surprised at how good it ended up being. I found the mostly black handle and blade appealing and was just giving it a chance, now I’m buying a full set and constantly hear them ragging on my one coworker for losing the best knife. Lesson learned: If you want something good but your boss has poor taste and is a cheapskate, just buy something good yourself. ... show more

  • I love that you can get a single replacement knife
I bought a set for my mother in law. I LOVE these knives and they are my go-to for gifts, housewarmings, wedding showers, etc. My MIL somehow lost one of her knives, I don’t know if she accidentally threw it out or someone took it home in a container after a party. But it was the utility knife that she always used. When I found out I could buy a single knife instead of getting her a whole new set, I had it sent to her as a surprise and she was so happy! I will never spend money on any other knives as long as these exist. For the price and quality you can’t beat them. I’m honestly surprised how inexpensive these are. Best thing I ever bought on Amazon (which says A LOT coming from me!) ... show more

  • It works but needs constant sharpening...
I went ahead and took a gamble on this knife, hoping that it was a super-sharp tool for the price. When it arrived I wasn't super impressed but it works. Luckily, I have a knife sharpener in my kitchen that will keep this blade ready to use. I like the fact that it isn't serrated. I almost returned it but decided against it in the end. I think the metal in the blade is softer than the premium blades. If you're looking for a knife that cuts things, this will do. But you'd better have some kind of sharpener to keep it that way in the long run. Update: I do like the feel of this knife in my hand when I'm cutting up food. I was also impressed with the customer service follow-up I received after taking the time to review it on Amazon. This merchant definitely wants to make their customers are taken care of. Kudos to them for that. ... show more

  • Liked it so much I bought it twice!
This is the best knife I have ever purchased. It is very sharp and fits my hand perfectly. I have used it to cut meat, fruit, and vegetables with no problem. I prefer it to any other small kitchen knife I've used. I would recommend it to anyone. As I said, I was so impressed that I immediately bought another one. It may not last a long time, but at this priced, I can definitely afford to replace it! ... show more

  • Takes a great edge, but doesn't keep it.
This knife is really easy to sharpen to fine edge. Unfortunately, it also loses that edge quickly. I suspect that it is very soft steel. Not sure it is a good value or not, but it was pretty cheap to buy. Expect to sharpen it after every other use. Update: I really like this knife. It still requires sharpening quite often, but it sharpens so quickly (I use a whetstone) that I don't mind. The resulting edge, though, is much sharper than some of my better knives so it gets alot of use. Understand that I got this knife for about $5. For more money, I am not sure that it is a good value. ... show more
