This bar provided plenty of hand placement options. The foam padding tore in a fall but is serviceable. I thought of replacing the foam with bar tape but never got around to it. The bar did not suffer any damage in the fall. I think it was a good purchase.

Including the two corners I have five hand positions on these bars. They look a bit silly at first but I've grown to love these bars as my rides just feel better and my hands never hurt. A side note, this is a cheep version of trekking bars and you can feel it, there is some flex to the bars I can feel but for me that's what I wanted so I like it. The foam is awful but I recommend you use it for a while to see how it feels to you since no matter how you try to wrap these bars some part will always be wrapped incorrectly. You may have to get a new stem or cables depending on your setup but again it's cheep enough to just try out and make these adjustments later, that's what I've done anyway.

i used an air gun from my compressor to install pads. They will split if not careful. The bar is light and easy to install. I might get new cables and housings to install brakes and shifters on the upper bar section instead of lower.

No problems at all. Stiff enough, too. A little flex at the ends, but certainly nothing unreasonable or scary. Dish soap and a little water on the bar worked fine for getting the sponge on. I also discovered that if you soak the sponge itself it gets soft and goes on much easier. It dried within an hour or two, and after everything dried up the slipperiness disappeared, too. But now I am thinking that a good rain might bring back the slip of the sponge on the bars.. . . Not a good thing, and I might want to replace the sponge with cushioned bar tape if this happens.

The handle bars are what I wanted. I get roughly 5 different hand positions now to help combat hand fatigue and nerve pain. I rode a 20+ mile ride, and a 30+ mile ride back to back in two days with this handlebar. I didn't feel discomfort until the last 3 miles or so of that second ride. Bar tape was easy to install (I didn't use the foam the bars came with.) The only complaint I have is toward my own novice mechanic skills: that is I had to learn where to place my shifter/brake cables. My advice is to place them so that the cable routes in relaxed curves.

This is the 2nd time I purchased this item for a 2nd bike installation, so this alone is a strong product recommendation! While I cannot recommend this product more strongly to provide a more upright comfortable riding position, I would caution buyers that this kind of handlebar is moderately difficult to install on a typical mountain or hybrid bike. The fasteners for the gear/brake lever assembly must be carefully pried apart to provide a gap wide enough to fit around the curves in this butterfly handlebar.

Transitioned from a flat bar to this. Ended up increasing the number of hand positions at the expense of shrinking the break distance. For leisure use, it’s not going to be a problem but not something in going to throw on anything geared towards performance. Great for the need but has its limitations.
