I have been looking for a stand-alone clothes shelf that will let me fold clothes in half once and then stack them. A lot of free-standing closets aren't wide enough and assume you are folding clothes twice so they don't need as wide of a shelf. After a lot of searching, I came across this and figured it was cheap enough to be worth a shot. I cannot express how much better this is than I was expecting. I saw other reviews talking about how customizable it was, but I wasn't confident that I could go off book without messing something up. Well, I started out following the directions to make the shelves themselves, then realized I didn't like how close together the shelves were, and before I knew it I had gone off book and had improvized a closet that perfectly matched my needs and fit my space. My only recommendation: Since the shelves themselves are just bars, I found that clothes kind of half fell through when I put them on. BUT there's a super simple fix. Go to walmart and buy their plastic placemats for less than $2 each. They fit perfectly on the shelves, make it so nothing can fall through, and give you a chance to add some color/style to the shelf itself. ... show more

My daughter moved back home unexpectedly. After having been out of the house for a couple of years, I repurposed her bedroom as a craft room and thus there was no room for her in there. She is now living in our family room. It's not ideal, and we've had to get creative to make the space functional for her. In doing some searching for space-saving ideas I came across the portable closet concept and I started looking into that. I was drawn to this unit because it could be configured in many different ways and I liked that option. She built it in an "L" shape which has made the best use of the space she has. Assembly wasn't easy, but it wasn't hard either. She has managed to store all of her clothing on this rack and still has some room to spare. She has got A LOT of clothing hanging on this rack and as a result, it is a little bowed and the end pieces aren't completely straight. But to be fair, my girl hangs her hoodies which are heavy, and she has many of them. Although it is straining under the weight, I think we are asking a lot of it and it is meeting the task adequately. If this was to be a more permanent fixture in our home I'd want something more solid, but it is definitely good enough to get us by until she is back on her feet and able to move out again. ... show more

With the mallet everything fits snug. It is intermediate on the assembly level (slightly challenging) and the manual is a little confusing. Once built (1&1/2-2 hrs.). It's sleek and adjustable to your space. Couldn't really ask for a better price.

I bought this in hopes half the reviews were wrong. Used for a couple months before it started popping apart and rods started snapping. I thought it was a good cheap option but it’s been one of the worst things I’ve purchased.

Essentially, as the title says, this may work for you but you get what you pay for. Pros: easy (albeit tedious) to put together, comes with instructions, pretty light so easy to move, ability to reconfigure is nice. Cons: cheaply made so the tubes bend easily, the plastic edges crack, hard to get it straight/balanced, and the bars are okay for baskets or some clothes but not great if you are just trying to use them like shelves (for tshirts, etc.), bars didn’t seem sturdy enough to hold more than a couple hangers. It was a good temporary solution for me but it was more frustrating than functional most of the time. It works and it does offer a lot of shelf space, it’s just not very sturdy. Now that I’ve taken it down to move I don’t know that I’ll reassemble it. ... show more

I wasn't expecting much from this, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this organizer. You get the Lego building blocks of organization in this thing. There's different sized metal rods, connectors, a little rubber mallet, white gloves (idk why but they're in there), and some smaller hardware like connectors to make angles and plugs. This is a problem for my wallet. I'm absolutely obsessed. I've already ordered two more of these, and in all honesty, they won't be enough. I fully expect that I'll be using these in nearly every room of my house. I'm going to finally be able to walk through my garage without acquiring a mysterious bruise. I've already got one in my kid's closet, and used the leftovers to organize my coffee and tea collection, free up some space in my kitchen, and make a shelf to hold canned cat food. Yup.
