I've been waiting for the dark gray color to come back in stock for months and then I received an email that it was finally available. I quickly ordered it and when it arrived it was the light gray color not the dark gray. I'd waited so long for this item that I decided to keep it as the color was d0-able with our kitchen color scheme, but the dark gray would've worked better. We wanted to install this into two wall studs so it would really be able to hold our heavy winter coats. The item itself is pretty flimsy for the price, but it's a nice "artsy" coat rack and there aren't many unique coat racks around. We liked that when it's not in use during the summer it looks like a "cityscape" on the wall. In order to get it installed into two studs we had to disassemble the rack completely as the pre-made mounting locations don't line up with standard wall studs and we've learned over the years that molly-mounted coat racks just don't hold up over time. We took the back panel off, then removed the pivot rod that runs through all the pieces (be careful not to lose the tiny end cap on the rod, this rod is what enables the pull-downs to operate). Then we measured to the center of each of the two wall studs and transferred that measurement to the rack, each mounting hole fell at the far end pull-down spaces so we made sure to drill the new mounting holes up far enough that the screw heads wouldn't impede the closure of the pull-downs. Getting this rack level is a challenge if new mounting locations are created like we did. We used the tallest center piece to draw a level line, then installed one side without tightening all the way and re-leveled before installing the opposite side. We used 1 ½" flat head screws so they would go through the drywall and well into the studs for stability and strength. The rack is solid once installed the way we did it. Might consider purchasing a second one just so we have enough space for additional winter wear, but the price is a deterrent given the flimsy quality of the rack. The drop-downs are sturdy because the pivot rod is pretty heavy duty, but everything else is cheap plastic. ... show more
