Description

The classic UCO Original Candle Lantern in a convenient value pack that also includes a 3-pack of UCO 9-hour candles and a soft, fleece bag for storage. The UCO Original Candle Lantern is equally suited to camping and outdoor activities as it is to providing lighting at home in emergency situations. The lantern is collapsible to minimize space and features an easy-sliding glass chimney that creates a windproof environment for the candle. The spring- powered candle tube pushes the candle up as it burns, keeping the flame burning at a constant height. A viewing slot allows the user to monitor the remaining time of the slow-burning candle. Includes carrying handle and hanging hook. Two Inch in diameter, the lantern stands 6.5 Inch when opened and collapses to 4.25 Inch when closed. Weight (with candle) is 6.4 ounces (181 g). Brass lantern 8.8 ounces (249 g). Made in the USA.

Small, lightweight, reasonably durable and it works great. Even their cheaper candles burn almost all night. The bees wax candles last a long time. Puts out plenty of light for camping purposes or just chilling outside with some ambience.

    • I’m pleasantly surprised with this lantern
This lantern is so simple and so cool. Really light and very small. Can even keep it in my pants pockets. Glass seems quite stable though it’s glass so if you’re not careful it’ll break like any normal glass ever made so hopefully the people complaining about the glass think it through a little. It’s not Pyrex or safety glass so it will break. Though I think they should have made it from Pyrex I have no idea why they didn’t as it’s superior to regular glass in every way. What ever though as long as you don’t drop it on hard ground or something you’ll be fine. Has a nice dim light perfect for when your eyes have adjusted to the dark. Still haven’t tested it in my tent as a heat source as I’m a little worried the heat from the top will melt my tent. I’ve seen videos of people doing it and leaving it on all night and it looks safe enough. Just gotta make sure you have the tent well ventilated so you don’t asphyxiate yourself while you sleep. It produces carbon dioxide (not carbon monoxide which people seem to confuse it with) and you also produce carbon dioxide while breathing making it a slight hazard if you have all the tents vents closed. Still with only 1900 btu of heat you can’t expect it to do all that much in a larger tent. In a tent that’s around 40 square feet and 4 feet high (standard 2 person tent) thats well ventilated you will need around 3,400 btu of heat to get the temperature to around 70 degree and maintain it. Still that little lantern will make a big different producing more than half the btu needed to heat your tent. Anyways awesome lantern been using it in my room at night to read even though I’ve burned myself a half dozen times accidentally touching the top plate.     • Light and cheery for the purpose
I bought this unit heading into a blizzard. Living in an older home, the electricity can be a bit of an issue with heavy snows. While I have flashlights, and one on my phone, I prefer to keep those for when we need to move about the house or navigate outside during bad weather. I also don't like to deplete my phone battery by using the flashlight feature overmuch. I had been meaning to pick one of these up, but they were sold out the last time I was looking. I purchased the yellow model because it would stand out in the dark, and I find it to be a cheery color if I'm stuck in the dark. The packaging is simple, but nice. The powder coating is even and not patchy. Operation of this piece is intuitive, and it is nice to know that it comes with a candle installed and three (3) spares. The glass surrounding the flame is also comforting, from knowing that accidental blowing out is reduced, as well as issues with an open flame. The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the wire handle. It is functional, but doesn't seem as sturdy as the rest of the unit. I'm not worried it will "break" per se, but it does come off as a bit of an afterthought. I would still purchase this item again for sure. I may even get the shade for it. (sold separately). ... show more

    • Good value, if this is what you need
UCO candle lanterns are their own thing. Some may argue that they are obsolete--they're much dimmer than a smaller, lighter LED lantern; they can, theoretically set your tent on fire; some people don't trim the wick length quite right and end up dripping melted wax on themselves; and it is possible to easily bend the thin metal of the lantern (and have do some strategic re-bending). I don't disagree with an of those statements, but I think there's still a place for this venerable technology. I do a lot of cool weather camping, and the (small) amount of heat that this lantern puts out can help take the edge off a chilly 2 or 3 person tent. The flame also helps dry out humid air--not a lot (it's just a candle), but noticeably. And because of the enclosed nature of the flame, I believe that the risk of setting things on fire with this lantern is pretty darned low. For me, there's also another aspect to a candle lantern. I go camping to take a step back from technology and relax. There's a qualitative difference between the incandescent glow of an UCO lantern (or Coleman lantern) and the brash light of an LED lantern. This set provides a basic candle lantern and 3 9-hour refill candles. I think it's a good value. ... show more

I bought one of these 30 years ago. I would use it in a pinch when camping if I didn’t want to use my white gas or propane fueled Coleman lantern. I found the old one the other day and noted that the glass chimney had broken. I didn’t find a replacement glass chimney to fit this on Amazon so I ordered this replacement lantern. This one is easier to light than my older model as the glass chimney can be slid down then slid back up after lighting. On older models you have to unscrew the candle holder then put it back after lighting. For transport the lantern collapses into the base protecting the glass chimney. ... show more
