Built a new outdoor grill station and was very concerned after the first couple of times grilling about heat from the grill causing issues to the wooden structure and/or the tile countertop on the backside of the grill because the grill is only 3” from the back wall. After one use with the Tugaizi heat shield I’m no longer worried! This thing seems to absorb the heat because the back of the grill seems no hotter than it was before and the back wall of the grill station (under the heat shield) is virtually the same temperature as it was before I fired up the grill. Highly recommend this product if the back of your grill is close to anything that could be damaged by heat!

Does what it's made to do for much cheaper than a piece of the fancy backboard made to go behind a wood burning stove. My grill was causing the paint to curl and peel off the wall on my deck. This thing absorbs so much heat! It can be too hot to touch while the wall behind it stays cool.

I was wanting some kind of shield behind my gas grill to protect my deck rails and post. This heat shield fits the bill! It is very well made, easy to use (hang using the grommets) and can be rolled up and put away during the off season.

I had a new, elevated deck built from the ground up, in the summer of 2021. The old deck (25 years) was made of treated wood that was spintering. The new one is constructed of TimberTech composite planking with powder-coated black steel balusters supporting the top railing. It is the densest, costliest, and heaviest of all manufacturers' composite planking. It is essentially, a dense, non-porous plasticized/wood material which is maintenance free, but is easily cleaned. After several grillings on my new deck, I noticed that the edge of the top railing, which is directly behind the top of the firebox and rear vent of the grill, and which is the same TimberTech composite as the deck planking, was rippling as from heat damage. The grill had been only about 4" from the top railing. Since then, I'd been pulling the grill away from the deck edge toward the center of the deck (3 - 4'), to avoid further damage (which was slight) to the deck rail. I ordered this item so as to be able to leave the grill positioned relatively closer to the place it had been, nearer the railing. The Amazon sales page states, "To resist the heat from the grill and protect the railing from heat damage, we design the heat shield mat." I was expecting this heat shield to be somewhat thick and fibrous. I was surprised when it came and I discovered that it is quite thin 3-4 mm). It is constructed of what the manufacturer/distributor described as "fiberglass with silicone coating on both sides." I guess that the fiberglass is sandwiched between two, thin layers of a high-temperature silicone laminated to a cloth substrate. What confused me was that on the Amazon sales page for the item, the Material is described as "Polyester." I mounted it using zip ties which was fairly easy, because the mat has conveniently positioned grommets along its edges, but I noticed that while just installing the heat shield mat under a blazing sun, the mat became uncomfortable to deal with because it became hot just from sunlight exposure. I wondered if it was up to the job it is claimed to survive. Just as a precaution now, when I use it, I've got the backside of the grill about 10" away from the railing, just in case (but, I got 12 square feet of my deck back, more room for entertaining). I will follow up after I've grilled several times, with a report on the condition of the railing and balusters behind the grill, covered with the heatshield mat.
