We have a diabetic and hypoglycemic in our house so we were able to use this monitor to test for both high and low sugars and measure it against our 'prescribed' monitors and the doctor's offices. I had falsely assumed that over-the-counter devices were not as accurate. This little meter was on the button with both our home monitors and those in the doctor's offices. The bundled kit comes with everything you will need to start your glucose monitoring journey: the Meter Bundle, 100 Test Strips, 100 Lancets, a Lancing Device, a Control Solution (to check the accuracy of the strips/meter), and a case to hold everything in one place. The device does take two AAA batteries, which were included in the pack. It packs tightly and fits into the palm of a hand for easy travel. The Lancing device was very easy to use and goes from level 1 to 5. I didn't feel any of them and it was honestly one of the best I've used in a while. The entire bundle being together to purchase for a good price is honestly great as well. I did have two issues. The first is that it's not easily used if you have an issue with your sight. Several members of our household are blind or nearly so. There are no audio cues for them to use. The other problem was the finicky test strips. This is an issue with just about all machines. With this meter, you need enough blood to get it onto the strip *in time* or you get an error. First, you must put the strip in the machine. It gives you a blood drop sign to let you know it's ready. Then you have a short amount of time to prick your finger (I chose to do that before putting the strip in). When it's time to add blood to the strip you must have a larger bead. You can NOT add blood before putting it into the machine. On the exposed end of the strip, there is a thin line that must "suck up the blood." It must *fill* that hard-to-see narrow band. If you are successful, the meter will process and give you a number in a few seconds. Otherwise, it gives you a generic error code (E3 or E7) and you have to start again. Again, this is an issue with most meters but honestly was a bit frustrating. I do think this is great for anyone with good eyesight but I do recommend reading the entire booklet if you are new to these types of machines. It's a great beginner device for readings but should be used by one person since it averages the numbers in addition to providing the individual readings.

When shopping for a glucose meter, make sure that you price the disposable supplies. Over time, they will add up to a lot more than the meter itself. Unfortunately, unlike lancets that you can buy from any company, a lot of meters lock you in to buying proprietary test strips. Having said that, you also want a good meter and I think that this one is very good. It's easy to read with large letters and numbers on the screen and use and feels very well made. I had no trouble using the lancets and lancing device that were included in the kit. There are 5 settings. The instructions say that you can set it between numbers for more precise depth control, but it clicks into place at each number so it doesn't really feel like it's meant to be used between numbers. The control read 76 on the first reading which was within the accepted range for that solution so I was happy that it was properly calibrated. If this is your first time using a glucose meter, there is a lot to read and learn included in the packet. While everything has its own set of instructions, I recommend first opening the booklet for the lancing device and get your lancet set up. Then use the meter's booklet to set up the meter properly with date and time and sound on or off. Next get a vial of strips and the control solution. Then you can do your control test using the instruction booklet for the meter. I found that easier to follow than the instructions for the control solution. It's a lot to follow at first, but trust me that it gets a whole lot easier with practice.

My wife and I both use a Continuous Glucose Monitor and want to be able to calibrate them to ensure accuracy. That’s where Blood Glucose Meter (BGM) are needed. The TRUENESS BGM is made by Trividia Health, which according to their website is the largest US manufacturer of store brand products for people with diabetes. Like all BGM’s, the meter is practically free, and the company makes their money selling lancets, test strips, and control solution. The meter can store 500 results and also provides averages up to 90 days. It’s not quite as easy to use as my other BGM. The test strips are quite small and a bit of a challenge for a fumble fingers like me to insert. The lancing device and lancets are simple to set u and use, and the meter returns your blood glucose reading about 5 seconds after it detects enough blood on the test strip. It seems as accurate as our other BGM. We’re not diabetic but have learned an enormous amount of information about how our body metabolizes different foods using our CGM. This BGM takes it a step further by allowing us to periodically calibrate our readings, and at about 25 cents per test, it’s something that everyone should own. Sadly, it’s cheaper to buy this kit than it is to buy the individual components, but it does give you options to try a different product after you’ve used up all the strips if you’re not enamored with this one.
