The longer blade cuts faster with less effort since it oscillates through a longer distance. The teeth are hardened well enough to cut through a few small nails without being damaged, and the extra reach is frequently convenient. One negative that I have to compensate for is that if I apply too much pressure, it tends to loosen the spring-loaded connection at the quick-change lever on the tool. It’s best to apply moderate pressure and let the full width of the oscillating teeth do all the work.

Unfortunately, these blades look really nice. However, they do not perform very well. Contemporary can buy metal blade should’ve cut through nails without any problem. However, they failed to perform even marginally adequately even in fiberglass let alone nails. I did try using the wood only blade in some yellow pine, and it dolled out extraordinarily fast. So if you get a chance, maybe pass this one by.

I bought these long blades to cut a 4” PVC pipe in a very hard to get to area. They snapped right into my new multitool without any problem. Using a mirror I was able to cut the pipe that I had tried to cut for days in less than 2 minutes and it was straight so I could put an elbow on. The blade shows no sign of wear and I have the whole pack left. I would buy again but these should last me a long time!
