  • Not perfect, but a very good red dot
Style: MRO with Low Mount
Having owned my MRO for about 10 months now, I definitely feel it's a good optic for the money and am generally happy with my purchase. Having heard of some of the QC issues on this model, I was definitely a bit hesitant at first, but mine has performed very well so far and have a lot of confidence in Trijicon that they stand behind their products. All that being said, the MRO is not a perfect red dot and if you are seriously interested in purchasing it, there are a few things you should know about it beforehand. If you can live with these issues, then you will probably be very happy with it. Bluish Hue: The optical clarity of the MRO is quite excellent, just like every other Trijicon optic I've used, but when shooting with both eyes open, there is a slight, but noticeable bluish hue to the lens. I have however found this coloration is more noticeable indoors than when used in natural light outdoors. Though I personally prefer a more colorless optic, I don't think it's an issue and hasn't adversely affected the function of the optic on any practical level. Magnification: For me, this is the biggest con of the MRO and something that caught me by surprise when I first tried it. This optic has a very, very slight, but noticeable amount of magnification to it. When shooting with both eyes open, the closer you are to the target, the more noticeable the magnification becomes. On a practical level, it doesn't really affect function for me, though if I were using it more in very close quarters, I might have more of an issue with it. Regardless, for $500 +/-, it's a little disappointing considering I've used Holosun optics that were less than half the cost of the MRO that didn't have these issues, are perfectly clear and close to, if not as durable. Glare: Yes. In certain situations there is some glare to this optic and if you crank up the brightness too much in darker spaces, you will notice this, and in some cases, a halo effect. Glare will also be an issue when exposed to direct sunlight. Part of this I attribute to the large objective and feel that's just a price you pay, although I imagine some of it may be reduced with the use of a kill flash. Regardless, when using the correct brightness settings for your environment, most of these potential issues shouldn't give you any problems. Lens covers: There are not a whole lot of options for lens covers for the MRO and the ones you can find are severely overpriced in my opinion. Fortunately, I found a tip online that suggested the Butler Creek #17 for the front objective and sure enough, it works great! Highly recommended. Summary: Overall I definitely like my MRO very much. But if you're seriously in the market for one, I would strongly suggest trying it out first before buying and especially, comparing it to other red dots like the AimPoint Micro as there are distinct Pros/Cons to each that will likely influence your preference. Lastly, unless you are LEO or Military, I would also suggest also comparing it to some of the Primary Arms / HoloSun optics offer some very competitive options at less than half the cost. ... show more

  • This is my 8th Trijicon sight, and the first one I've ever been un-impressed / disappointed with
Style: MRO with Lower 1/3 Co-Witness Mount
In my personal collection, I own more Trijicon models than any other brand of sight (I've got ACOG, VCOG, Reflex, etc). This MRO was my first Trijicon "Red Dot". I also own a few EOTech sights and a smattering of SIG ROMEO and MEPROLight and even some cheap-o Bushnells (probably 20+ sights in all). I'm usually a HUGE Trijicon fan and proponent. Then came along the MRO which is on one or my TAVOR's, and boy would I love to now have that $400+ back. The sight was fine when I first mounted and zeroed it a few months ago. Although at the time I tested it alongside one of my SIG ROMEO5's ($125 here on Amazon) and really could not see why I was able to purchase 3 ROMEO5's (which is the number I ordered) for essentially the same price as the MRO. I figured there must be some "Trijicon Magic" that made the MRO worth so much more than the excellent ROMEO5's. Not a biggie, but I really couldn't see what made it worth almost 3X the ROMEO5's price (other than a slightly wider field of view). Then this week I grabbed 4 of our Tavor's and took them to the range just to put them through some "limbering up" shooting to keep them "duty ready". The Tavor with a MEPROlight still held the same zero it had 6 months ago. The Tavor with a VCOG (of course) still maintained the same zero from earlier this past spring. Same for the gun with one of the ROMEO5's. Then I got to the weapon with the MRO, AND BOY WAS IT OFF ! As a matter of fact, during a full 30-round string, the shots drifted laterally +/- over 5 MOA in a single (slow fire) 30-round string. It was like the windage was in complete free-float. The strange horizontal grouping was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen on a target. "Okay, maybe it's the gun" I thought, so I popped up the BUIS sights, and at 15 yards, I shot 5 rounds in a quarter-sized grouping. Okay, definitely not the weapon. Obviously something has broken inside this Red Dot. It's now in a box, off on its way back to Trijicon for warranty service. Let's see what they say (I will report an update here once we hear back). Definitely not the reliability level we expect from either Trijicon (or any $400 red dot). Very surprising and disappointing. Stay tuned. ... show more

  • Good Optic... A couple minor issues?
Style: MRO with Lower 1/3 Co-Witness Mount
I like this red dot sight. I have heard or read many complaints about red glare, reflections... etc, etc. I have this mounted on an AR and just took a training class with it. Almost all of this commentary seems to be completely irrelevant in use, when that use is for defensive purposes. An argument could be made that, if just used for target shooting, those may be annoying issues / personal preference. During use in the training, I never noticed any of the glare, reflection, etc issues. My summary after using it in the class - it worked very well! I was hitting steel targets, regularly, at various distances out to 300 yards. My previous thought was I would need a magnified scope to do this. Knowledge is powerful. There are two minor issues that I do have with this sight: 1) the windage and elevation adjustments are not as positive as I would like. It is sometimes difficult to feel or hear the click. 2) When sighting in, sometimes you think you have a good zero and the next time you shoot, you quickly find out that you don't. This happened in the class. I was told that some MRO's have this issue and that if you adjust it past where you want it and then turn it back to where you really want it, it will eliminate this issue. I will test this theory and will report back later. One of the instructors was using an MRO and he said he has been having problems with his holding zero. These two issue are not a deal breaker for me but they kept me from giving it 5 stars. ... show more
