Ok, I love how thick the shelves are on this unit. I love the rugged industrial look, and the price was right. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I put some threaded casters on the bottom instead of the feet that come with it, but it's frankly too narrow to wheel around, so you probably shouldn't do that. PROTIP: There are holes on the frame to attach the X-shaped cross-brace to the back. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PAY ATTENTION to be sure that all four frame pieces are all facing the same way, so there are 4 holes on the back for the cross-brace. I was only able to correct such a mistake using my acrobatic skills. PROs: it arrived well packed, everything was there. The holes lined up. It's an attractive bookshelf and I am so massively happy with it. CONs: First, yes the shelves are thick, but they are hollow. That also makes the unit lighter, so don't complain. They are also really nice shelves in my opinion. I actually had to knock on them to realize they were hollow. It's not very obvious. It looks like solid wood in my opinion. Second, the frame comes in 4 pieces. There's a bottom portion that is basically the bottom 2/3 of the unit: 2 frame pieces and 3 shelves go on the bottom portion. So far so good, right? So, the top portion is also 2 frame pieces and 2 shelves. And you put that together and put it on top of the bottom unit, and you have a nice tall shelving unit. Unfortunately, because top and bottom are separate pieces screwed together, they can be a little wobbly unless you *really* tighten every screw. You should be tightening the screws anyway, but who am I to tell you how to live your life? Do yourself a favor and buy this. You have no idea how much crap I had on my desk and on a small shelf that was not wide and was not tall, and now I can put it all on that shelving unit and it looks elegant and wide and tall. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. SO, summer 2020 we moved into a house and the kitchen had no pantry. Being the DIY problem solver that I am I turned to trusty amazon bc in the middle of a pandemic who wants to be browsing storage solutions in a box store. I found these shelves and wow! amazing. They are wood. They are stained but not sealed. Something to keep in mind if you are in a really humid environment or will be storing leaky liquids. They were mechanically simple to put together. They sent all the tools and parts. I would recommend wearing gloves bc there will probably be some metal shavings from the shelf supports and the do hurt to get those pricks. Other reviewers have stated don't tighten everything up until all the screws are in place, which includes the cross braces on the back. I put felt pads on the feet of the shelves since we have wood floors, and it didn't affect the stability at all. The only reason that I am not giving these shelves five stars is bc they do not line up evenly. One shelf leans forward more than the other. It is the shelf not the floor or the wall. I checked. The black coating on the metal supports does chip somewhat easily so it is probably a good idea to avoid other hard or sharp objects near the metal. The shelves themselves hold a ton of weight! Seriously we load these suckers up! Now we aren't climbing on them, and I don't have small children, so I didn't anchor them to the wall. If I did, I would have anchored them for peace of mind. But they are heavy enough not to wobble. When they are empty and with the felt on the feet, I could slide them on the floor on my own and I did lift them up on my own, after assembling however lifting them up on my own I wouldn't recommend just bc it made my back angry. The shelves were fine. They do come in different boxes so be patient if you only get part of your order. It was a couple of days before we got the rest of our order. I have had these for almost a year now. They have been a great investment and solved a storage issue with our kitchen. Bonus is it is really easy to see what I have for groceries to make my shopping lists. I hope this review is helpful and I am sorry for typos! Happy shopping! ... show more

I needed a big solid bookshelf for actual books. I don't see the thick real wood slabs bowing under the weight of my books any time soon (years). Great purchase for the price! Because real solid wood is expensive.

I think they are a bit over priced. Its not super sturdy but overall its a nice shelf. One of them arrived busted so I am still working to get it replaced but overall I like it and would buy again!

At this point, I've bought two of these bookcases plus a desk from Tribesigns, so the patterns are becoming clear. Every one has had minor cosmetic issues, with unevenly applied paint on the frames or uneven staining on the boards--not too noticeable, but still there. The only serious issue was one of the bookcase shelves having a bad split in one end of it. In all cases, when I complained about the problems and sent in photographs of the damage, they were quick to offer a small partial refund or, in the case of the shelf, a free replacement which arrived reasonably quickly. So no, I don't think their cosmetic quality control is worth crap, honestly. But the furniture is actually sturdy and well made otherwise and I really quite like it. You'll be hard pressed to find a bookcase that size with solid wood for less than a grand anywhere else. Pro Tips For Potential Buyers: Varnish the shelves before assembly. It is 1000% worth the effort. I used a nice Varathane oil semigloss, but I'm partial to the amber tint of oil-based varnishes. I imagine most everyone would be just as happy with polyurethane, and it's easier. You can touch up paint flaws on the black metal frames with spray paint. I had an old can of black Rustoleum High Heat, and I was extremely pleased with how well it blended with the factory paint once dried. Bear in mind the factory paint is not smooth, so don't apply enough spray paint to result in a smooth surface. Hold the can a fair distance, work in short puffs, and feather the edges.
