I can’t believe this thing was only $35 and service is $13 or less per month. This device is exactly what I was looking for for my adventurous teenage (10 mo) vizsla girl. My 3 yo boy has always been reliable about staying within an approved range of my semi-rural, fenceless house, and I’d hoped my little female would just stick with him. Turns out she’s a bit more adventurous and has even emboldened him to venture farther and not check in as often as he’s accustomed to. Recently, although they’re welcome at my one neighbor’s yard they now go to on their own to play with her dog, little Wren has been seen too many times venturing out into the increasingly busy road off her fenceless yard. With this tracker, I’m now able to set up ranges on my property I’m comfortable with them roaming on their own, and I get alerts whenever they go too far towards the busy road, cross into unapproved neighboring properties, or even go to visit the approved neighbor. Now I can retrieve Wren without my neighbor having to ask or give her rides home, or I can at least go supervise that they stay within the safe boundaries of her yard. I no longer have to wonder what they’re up to or that they’re staying on my land (which I’m finding out they usually are; good doggies). I can focus on my work, and they don’t have to be fenced or tethered and can just be dogs doing their doggy things together. I also worried about them constantly this spring as the ice on the lake was thawing. I can’t watch them all the time or keep them locked up inside the whole time, but I knew they were going way out onto the thinning ice. I was so worried they’d fall in. Now I have safe alert boundaries set up that I can turn on in the spring and off the rest of the year that will alert me if they go onto the ice. The tracker is so accurate to such a small range, it’s fascinating to check in on them and view the history of her movements. She’s busy (see scribbly photo of zoomed in movements with heat spots where she spent more time)! However, as other reviewers have pointed out, the smallest virtual fence range is indeed larger than the average urban yard, so I think it will not be what you’re looking for if you live in town and want to know if your dog goes just next door. I wasn’t sure how well it would work at my friend’s property when he watched them for the day, as he lives further up in the mountains with not great cell coverage (first picture), but it worked a treat all day. I kept checking in on her (for fun) throughout the day when I was away in another city, and was amused to see where all she went around his property. I’m also finding the battery to be long lasting, whether they spend the day in or out of my Wi-Fi range. I don’t usually have need to turn on live tracking, which it says can cause the battery to drain more quickly. I have used it a couple times, but only for a minute or so. It works well and i didn’t notice the battery draining suddenly or anything. I charge my cell phone every day just as a matter of course. I was prepared to do the same with the tracker, but I’m finding I only actually need to charge it about once per week. It seems to be very durable too. I’m not sure if she’s dunked it yet, but I know she and her brother have splashed around in the creek with it. She’s also not used to wearing her harness full time now, so she’s tried rubbing it off against things, without success. It has a couple scratches on it now, but hasn’t phased it. It’s super easy for me to get it off and on the harness (for charging), but so far it’s stayed put despite her best efforts. A+ I did find it took a little poking around to get to the $13/monthly offer in the app (which itself I found to be simple enough to set up), but when I saw that you get a 30-day free trial if you sign up for the longer options anyway, that was good enough for me and so I went for the yearly subscription which is the better value. And it turned out I was super pleased with the service right away and will be very happy to keep it now. I really love this tracker. It’s such an excellent value for what they provide and for me personally the peace of mind is priceless.

First, I want to explain I rarely write reviews, I’ve never found a product that I was thrilled enough about that I was willing to recommend & take the time to leave a review for, this is the exception. I’ve always wanted a true GPS tracker for my last dog, who we lost a year ago, but the price plus subscription was way more than I could afford, so went the AirTag route, which as most people know, isn’t a reliable option for pets. Our new pup came to us over Father’s Day weekend & I was determined to get one for our new pup, who is a very active breed. Looked around & found a lot of very high priced options, then while watching tv, saw a commercial for Tractive GPS & decided to check them out. The reviews were enough to give it a try along with a very affordable price during Prime days in July. I purchased the two year tracker plan to take advantage of the discounted subscription price. Received it 3 weeks ago & charge it once a week. In 1 weeks time the battery level has never gone below 55% & charging is very fast. App setup was simple, attaching to my 15 week old puppy’s collar was easy & not as bulky as the others I’ve researched. Tracking is very accurate, the additional health tracking is very similar to what you’ve seen if you’ve used a smart watch. Tracks his sleep & activity, can also track & record walks, which I find very helpful, especially since he’s such an active breed, I want to make sure he is getting a lot of exercise. Also has the ability to set up a virtual fence that allows you to set up his normal safe zone & alert you when he leaves it. One of my favorite features is the family invite, which allows you to invite a family member or friend to track him. You enter in their information with their email, they are sent an invite with a link to the app, & they can track your dog through the app to. My adult, out of the house son & daughter are able to see his location worldwide & can see his activity, unfortunately, my daughter now yells at me if I haven’t taken him for enough walks during the day! The only con, may only be something I haven’t found how to control through the app, is when we take him somewhere in the car, it gives a warning that he’s out of his safe zone, hopefully I can figure out a way to override this, my kids panic call us when they see him leave the setup virtual fence when we’re on our way to puppy training class, gets a little annoying as we take him everywhere with us. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable GPS tracker for their fur friend, it’s affordable, accurate, & very durable.

We were excited about all the positive reviews so bought one of these for our dog who occasionally likes to bolt for doggy freedom and return when he pleases. Well, we either have a bad unit that needs replacing or other people are way over-inflating the worth of these trackers. I have yet to have what I would call a positive experience over the past week using this device. First experience: I was out washing my car at home and my dog took off after some kind of animal, blasting between neighbors houses and out of sight. Perfect chance to try out the new device right!? I pull out my phone and not only do I NOT get any kind of alert that my dog has left the safe zone, it assures me he is still safely inside it. I close the app and re-open it to the same assurance from Tractive - that my pet is safe at home when I know for a fact he’s somewhere out in the neighborhood chasing something. It took almost 10 minutes for this tracker to finally send me his location. A motivated animal can go a long ways in 10 minutes so this is totally unacceptable. The following day I take the dog to a local hiking trail by a river. After going a safe distance from traffic I let him off leash and we continue our stroll down the trail. Shortly after letting him off he sees another something interesting and off he goes for the merry chase. No problem - let’s use Tractive to see where he goes since it has “real time updating”. Yea right. See attached image for the amazing results I got. It couldn’t seem to connect after trying multiple times saying there bust be “trees or buildings blocking the signal - try again in a minute.”. The best result I got was where my dog was 12 minutes ago… I KNOW where we were 12 minutes ago - I want to know where he is RIGHT NOW. So now I’m completely unimpressed and decide to test the unit in a controlled environment - leashed walks in my neighborhood. A GPS should be relatively accurate - at least within yards or within eyesight at minimum. See attached images of the results of two walks. The red line is where we actually walked and the blue line is where Tractive mapped us as walking. These are not even remotely accurate! At some points it was more than a quarter mile off. How are you supposed to track your lost animal if you can’t trust this device to be more accurate than this?? I would give this device zero stars if I could. It’s almost worthless. And my wife bought 3 years of service in advance that isn’t refundable - awesome. Buy at your own risk…

I've been using this product for almost a year and it is a great product by most standards. I haven't had many problems with it. Sure the delay for an alert once they leave. The safe zone takes about a minute but that's plenty of time to be able to still run and get your dog, but that's not a problem. MY PROBLEM is the fact that today my dog wandered away and I have a fully charged (96%) battery and I have paid for the subscription service that is all attached to my dog's harness, yet I am unable to find my dog. Why you might wonder well, it would so seem that they are having technical difficulties with their product and some trackers not being able to connect to the GPS and what not which is completely understandable right, sometimes technology has issues that need to be addressed and fixed... But that is the sort of thing that should have a notification pushed out. I am not sure how long the track is not working because I don't have to use it very often. But I should have been informed of that through notification, through email, through the app when I open it. But that was not the case. I called for my dog and my dog did not come so I opened up the app and it said he was still in the safe zone. Said he was just okay which was not the case so I wandered around confused for a moment. Wondering if he had slipped back in the house without my noticing. That did not happen so I try opening and closing the app doing all the normal things you would do to try to get something on your phone to work. Until I eventually decided okay. So this has to be a problem with the tracker. So I open up technical support or help or whatever they want to call it and I go to send a message and then on their website not their app on their website at technical support. That is when I see the message. Oh hey, our trackers aren't currently working. That would have been great to know before I let my dog outside at 5:00 in the morning before I go to work. So as of this exact moment I am at work and I was unable to find my dog. Thank you, tractive. I sent an email to support. It is currently 6:37 a.m. I wouldn't expect a response yet. I understand how businesses work. BUT, My dog is very important to me and because of a failure on their parts and a failure of communication I am unable to find him now I'm relying on someone to not just want to keep a lovable teddy bear of a dog and return him to me by his dog tag or for the pound to pick him up in which case they can run his chip. So I would expect some immediate help or at least an option for a immediate help not have to wait through the tedious process of emailing someone which could take upwards of days. I guess it's a good thing the track is fully charged. Hopefully someone doesn't press the button on the side and reset the tracker which is also another problem I have with this device because that has happened but they were kind enough to return my dog but they did reset the tracker so I couldn't track it. They didn't know they were trying to activate it. ANYWAY, after my long rant and still being very upset that I am unable to find my dog this pretty much sums up this Device. TRACTIVE, please read this and learn from it. Because I would love to be able to find my dog. Update: about an hour later the service came back online and I was able to send the tracking link to someone one to go pick him up. Shes 30 minutes away but the tracking is good. Point above still stands. Decent product though.

I was fairly skeptical at first. I tried the air tag type of tracking devices but living in a rural area they didn’t work to our satisfaction. Then I saw the Tractive tracker. After a little research we decided to give it a shot. And believe me we have not been disappointed in Tractive the least bit. We started with one tracker for our bloodhound Otis. I had no idea he was wandering that far away from the house when I put him on LIVE the first time I used it. Well our Bloodhound family has grown to 5 and I have 4 active trackers. I use 3 trackers on the big hounds. And I use 1 tracke between the 2 smaller hounds. Regularly they run / rome / wander/ exercise 2-3 miles daily. The fartherest I have seen one run was 9.8 miles in just over 4 hours. The total mileage is available in the history feature in the Tractive app. We live in an area that has quite a lot of timber and private land. And our dogs have permission to wander while wearing a high visibility vest on about 2000 acres at any given time. During hunting season we wait until nightfall or about 1 1/2 hours before sunrise to let them out. We monitor them closely with the app. The alerts that I have set on my phone will alert me when they get in an area that I have designated unsafe and I will usually call them and most of the time they will respond. But on the rare occasion when we have to get on the ATV or in my pickup truck to go get them. It gives us peace of mind just to know where they are. I can tell when they are running or wandering around by the MPH feature. The fastest I’ve seen was 11 mph. It shows the path that each dog takes by a bright blue line. When you have multiple dogs on the app screen the other paths are a dim blue line. We use the Wi-Fi feature to save on the battery by turning off the GPS when it detects a designated safe zone Wi-Fi signal. I use the Wi-Fi on our wireless printer as the home location. Because the signal is weaker than our home internet signal. That will trigger the tracker to turn on the GPS when it disconnects from the Wi-Fi. Then that starts triggering the alerts to our phones. When my wife takes a hound to the vet the tracker shows moving at 55-60 mph in the car. I’ve been 50 miles away and had to track our dogs that a delivery driver let out of the fence. When we got home about 3 hours later my wife called Otis and in about 15 minutes he come running to her. I knew exactly which direction he was coming from too. The pricing is very reasonable especially the two year plan. There’s a lot more testimonials I could give. If you will give Tractive a shot- believe me you won’t be disappointed.

Considerations: 1. I suggest replacing this item yearly, because of battery life. After about a year, the battery would drain very quickly when using the "Live" tracking feature to try and find my damn husky in the woods, when we were in 2-3 bar cell range. In 45 minutes, it went from 95% to under 60%. But that was partly because of the issues in comment 2. But realistically, it's not a surprise the batteries carry less of a charge after being on for 365/24/7, even in "Safe Zones" where it uses less energy. 2. Because it uses cell phone networks, this device works good in town but the "Live" feature may lag when in the woods or in areas where cell phone signals are less powerful. On a recent hike where my husky went on an adventure on the edge or town but behind a mountain, there was no "Live" update when he was in a small canyon or deep trees. So it goes. When we returned home and I pulled the hike up on the app map, it showed where he had been, but the "Live" tracking wasn't quite Live. Praise: Battery life other than when tracking "Live" is great. When 90% of time is spent at home in a Zone, the battery takes a week to fall below 85%. Being able to set up to 5 Fence Zones is wonderful, and it's pretty easy to change them. I have mine set for Home/Brother/Mom/Sister. The best part of setting Zones is that if you travel, you can set a Fence Zone for your hotel or Airbnb wifi AND THE BATTERY WON"T DRAIN OUT if you forget to charge the device. That's important because it's easy to forget to charge it when traveling but you don't want your dog to run off and find out there is 40% charge. I bought a second charger just for travel, after turning around 45 minutes from home on a two-week road trip where I wanted to make sure I could track.

The GPS function is decent. battery lasts about a week before it needs a full recharge. The two main problems I have with it: Is it on or off? The light does not always work so it's difficult to determine if it's on or off by looking at it. I can open the app but don't want to do that every time I just want to see if it's on and turn off to save battery overnight. On many occasions I thought i turned it off, only to have left it on and when i come back a coiuple days later, the battery is dead. But the nmber one problem with this thing and why I can;t use it all the time. The charger is strange and proprietary. It's also small and is easily lost or misplaced. This is my main issue. Since I use this when we go to our off grid property, I carry it back and forth and more than half the time, I simply can't find the charging cable. If it used USB C or mini USB or any other standard type charger, would be a non issue, but no, it is an issue. If you can keep that thing in a consistent spot and never move it, you would not have this problem.

**Trigger warning: *animal passing* and extremely looong review** As stated above, this will be **long**, so if this review is TLDR (too long, didn't read), here is what I need you to know: this tracker is amazing, get it, it's WORTH IT in my (((many))) experiences and opinions. I have had a fantastic experience over the last several years, for better (and worse), using Tractive. The trackers will occasionally show that they've left your preset "Safe Zone", which I assume is when they've gone far enough in our yard for a neighbors wifi to pick up the signal (we have a fenced backyard and currently live in a neighborhood). But, each time I check the "Live" location, it updates almost immediately to show their EXACT location, which is typically still within the "Safe Zone" I've set up (the fenced yard). The app will update again upon registering their "Live" location and provide the "back in safe zone" notification. It's also *so* helpful to know the exact distance away (for my app and location, it's in feet) they are from you and your device. We have a mini Dachshund that LOVES to escape and hide in bushes and such. The satellite map imagery is basically Google Earth level, if not exactly. In other words, she is now capable of hiding as well as Godzilla hides behind a dandelion. The new(ish) click-in charging ports are absolutely amazing! The trackers charge quickly and are able to use within an hour or so, and last several days on average! The connectivity and range is mind-blowing! If you have Bluetooth on your cell phone, you're bascially good to go! I trust Tractive with every single pet in our family (I've even tried to work out how to attach one to my horse without leaving a halter on at all times, but he isn't even an escape artist!). The design and sizes are pretty sleek and secure, whether for a small or large dog, cat, etc. The connection and range are fantastic; infinite in my experience. With the trackers connecting to neighboring wifi service, I take comfort in knowing that if they even get CLOSE to the edge of the "Safe Zone", I'll be notified and can immediately go to "Live" and see exactly where they are. Even when our dogs have escaped our yard, I've been able to track them to an exact location, whether it's a bush, hole, ditch, etc. Not to mention, the trackers themselves are so unbelievably durable. Here is where the ****TRIGGER WARNING**** comes in. If animal passing is an issue for you, please stop here. Several years ago, a young feral cat decided I was her human, and I humbly accepted. Trying to adapt her to the life of an indoor cat, but understanding the risks, I put a Tractive tracker on her. Here is where I'm sadly grateful. One morning, I received the notification that she had left the "safe zone", and was immediately concerned. I began tracking her and found that she was approximately one mile away from home. She had snuck out that morning as my partner was packing up for work. I jumped in my car and started driving to the location of her tracker. Fortunately, in my opinion, I found her at the edge of the road. She was gone, and her tracker was (I assume) "ejected" into the field beside her, and being private property, I didn't want to trespass to find it. But, it was still putting out a signal and did until the battery died. As tragic and upsetting as the experience was, I'm still SO GRATEFUL for Tractive in helping me find my girl and get closure. There was no extended worrying or wondering. No hoping that she'd find her way home, with the reality being that she was gone with us not knowing. I was able to locate her immediately and give her the proper and respectable rest she deserved. That is something I will always be thankful for. I recommend this tracking service to any and every pet owner. I manage a dog boarding facility, and I will ALWAYS recommend Tractive to our customers. To Tractive, thank y'all so much for what you have created and what you do for pet parents! The peace of mind is indescribable!
