I got this because I was tired of having to haul out blocks and 2x4's to raise the tongue weight scale I had, to reach at least a reasonably close height to the hitch. It always seemed to me like I needed to get at least level, otherwise it would be registering a higher weight as the angle was down toward the scale. This allows me to raise the sliding arm up to meet the hitch, rather than the other way around. I haul enough heavy equipment and trailers than I'd prefer to know before I go, whether there's too much weight toward the nose, than to get on the road and just "feel it out". I've seen plenty of people in the ditch from deciding "I'll just go a little further until I can find a place to adjust it". Fix it before you go - it's never failed me yet! I've had hitches with the scale built right in, but this feels like a better solution to me, and I don't have to keep track of where the scale hitch is, in case I borrow it out to someone - this just stays with me, and I WON'T be borrowing this out! LOL The downside to the hitch scale is that you're only ever going to be able to have 2 different size mounts, without having to carry an extra ball, at which point, you're having to keep track of extra stuff, so why not grab this? Fits EVERY size, in one single package. The bag is nice as well, to keep it from getting covered in garbage, and having it stick when I need it the most due to being covered in dust and grime. I was really excited to get this so I could more easily check the tongue weight on my popup camper. This would help me know how much air to put in my air bags to level the vehicle back out. Unfortunately, this scale's minimum measurement is 300 pounds, and my popup just doesn't put that much weight on the tongue, so I cannot get any kind of weight reading. I can make a mark on the scale for my popup camper and use that to gauge relative tongue weight, but it would have been really nice to have a more precise weight reading. There is one photo in the product listing that shows the scale, and clearly it starts at 300, but I just didn't notice that. I think the product description needs to indicate the minimum weight reading in addition to the maximum so people can make informed choices and not have to scour the details of the product photos. Aside from the fact that it won't work well for lighter trailers, it's really easy to setup and use. You lift the tongue up with your trailer jack just enough the slide the scale under, then lower the tongue onto the scale. The manual recommends only lifting the jack about 1 inch off the ground. This is in case the trailer falls off the scale. It's a good idea because the base of the scale is not that wide. I like this product, but have to deduct a star for not having a good description and for not working with lighter trailers. ... show more

    • Helps balance loads for a better towing experience
I can’t recommend this enough, especially if you’re an overpacker, like myself in my RV. I travel for work and the bedroom is in the back. After upgrading to a quality mattress the RV towed different. I took the majority of my clothing, put in totes, and put it in the front of the axles. Now it tows like it use to. I initially tried putting everything in the very front but it exceeded my recommended tongue weight of my truck. Using this I found a sweet spot right in front of the axle, which happens to be my bathroom. If you travel heavy you may have 200lbs of clothing like myself. My model of travel trailer is known for getting flat leaf springs, I now suspect it is from overpacking the rear bedroom. Weight your travel trailer loaded, use this to get to your 15% tongue weight without repeated trips to the pay scales. If you can lower your trailer onto the hitch, you can use this. It is nerve wracking not knowing what the tongue weight is on a trailer because of the safety issues with an improperly loaded trailer. This great little scale is compact and super easy to use. My only issue with it is that you have to take the trailer off of the ball to use the scale. Even so, the assurance that the weight distribution is right and that the weight on the tongue does not exceed manufacturer specifications makes it worth a little effort.
