  • My favorite skullcap/beanie. Tough. Functional. A good purchase.
Color: Dark Gray
With a shaved head, a good beanie is a must and I have a LOT of them. This was purchased primarily to be used as a skull cap for winter bicycle commuting and my review is based on several real-world commutes in temperatures ranging from 30 to 10 degrees. Bottom line, this is a fantastic beanie. Many skullcaps fit so tightly that they leave a line where the elastic or seam runs. Not terrible but you're imprinted for awhile after an activity. This fits close but doesn't leave telltale lines. Today's commute is a good example of why this is a great product. 22 degrees---and with my speed between 15 and 17 on my loaded commuter, the wind chill is pushing down to the mid-teens to about 10. I was comfortable for my 15 mile ride (approximately an hour). My head sweat passed nicely to the outer layer. Didn't feel the moisture at all. All of my Merino/SmartWool beanies would have been too substantial for the ride and I would have been dripping. Hung up, it will be dry by the time I ride home after work. The Tough Headwear beanie/skullcap/liner is two layers---the inner is a nice, soft brushed surface that feels great. I wear this beanie inside the house and it keeps me toasty. Launders easily. The resealable bag has been repurposed to carry my beard wash and oil. Won't last as long as the beanie but I was impressed enough with it to save it for storage/transport use. Why not, right? Very happy with this purchase, the price, and the company itself. ---UPDATE 2/2017--- So happy with the 1st, I have now acquired a second. ... show more

  • Well Stitched; Made For Purrpose - Cat's Meow
Color: Black (Ponytail)
In the event your cognitive capacity nicely exceeds your cranial capacity, this could be just what you're looking for. Item does run small, and fits snugly under size S Bern helmet - so, presumably, if it'll stretch comfortably over your noggin, then even more room inside your ever-larger brain-case-protection. Seems well stitched, with the pony tail cut-out purrhaps somewhat larger than you may have imagined it would be; So, danged if sliding through that dang pretty dangle of yours ain't just about the easiest gollderned thing in the world. Santa Advisory: One could envision it making for a very nicely appreciated stocking stuffer, but wash off that sugar-plum fairy dust, so it doesn't get too sticky. UPDATE: Have used her a few times and expect she'll be, pretty-much, the constant companion she was designed to be. The elastic seems to have stretched slightly over brief time, so now she's an even better fit, and she does retain some body heat, so is nice and cuddly warm - granted, it hasn't yet gotten what one may call frigid just yet, low 50°s, maybe somewhat cooler with the pedal-promoted wind chill - at any rate, so far one hardly notices she's even there. & keep your head in the game, Swan UPDATE: After utilizing this thingy, almost daily, for about a month or so, I really have to share with you that I am absolutely loving it - It's my new BFF! a.) On colder days it retains near perfect heat quotient - I'm not sure if you practice the 5th Law of Thermos Dynamics: One can lose, or gain, no small amount of warm fuzzies via proper noggin noddin'; And, listen-up: one can fold the lower-cut ear flap parts upwards for more of a breath of fresh air, need be. b.) Also, it may seem an odd fact of space-time, however, being spacey over a brief amount of time, one gathers that the thing seamingly conforms to one's [let's be honest: rather unfathomable] region - granted, given one is, in pointed of fact, really more honeydew than watermelonheaded - not unlike, one imagines, the universality of the trending sought after Vulcan Mind-Meld. So, I really do have to, most vociferously, recommended: If you are thinking, there, stop being a big silly stupid head about it and purchase, toot-sweet-like; You'll be happy you did, In all likelihood. Beyond that, flap your wings vigorously on cold days, and make lots of snow angels. -Swan ... show more

  • Decent, fits under motorcycle helmets, questionable moisture wicking
Color: Dark Gray
I primarily use this to protect the liner of my motorcycle helmets. Both are snug (Arai Quantum and Shoei RF-1200), so it can be difficult to find the right beanie. What I haven’t found, however, is a beanie that actual does any “moisture wicking.” These are no different. But they do prevent sweat from dripping into my eyes, and probably protect the helmet a bit. When I remove the beanie, it’s so wet on both sides that I can usually wring it out. I suppose it would be a bad thing if I couldn’t because that would mean my helmet liner absorbed them. I have an Arai/Sheoei/AGV size M head, and the product is a bit loose, but perfectly comfortable. It can be pulled down over your ears and stay there (personally, I never do this). It usually doesn’t completely come off upon removing the helmets. But when putting the helmet on, I usually need to push the front into the helmet a bit. I also use the beanie to protect and extend the life of my baseball caps. I’ve ordered two of these. Strangely, the new one was quite different from the old. This one is a thicker material with a slightly different design. It’s fine. I wear it more than the old one. Both should hold up for a long time. Certainly longer than my Under Armor beanie that completely disintegrated. I only ordered another because I temporarily lost the first one. Does anything actually wick away moisture? Maybe that compression material. Most of my looser base layers for my leathers don’t actually wick. But the materials still protect the leathers, hats and helmets. ... show more

  • Great cap on and off the bike
Color: Dark Gray
This is a great cap. It was a little big for me compared to another similar hat i use, but after wearing awhile I appreciated how warm it was. I works well under my bike helmets during colder bike rides. It makes colder bike ride much warmer.

  • Great cap. Exactly what I was looking for.
Color: Orange
I purchased this beanie/skull cap/helmet liner to protect my head from sunburn as well as to use as a sweat band. I wanted something that did not look like a terry cloth prop from a 1970’s era dance movie with the added benefit of keeping my perfectly shaved gourd from contracting melanoma from sunburn. Likewise, I did not want a heavy or thick material designed to keep heat in. This item from Tough Headwear fit the bill. I chose the bright orange color because I have a similar cap (albeit inferior quality) from a competitor that is black. But that kind of negates the idea of keeping one’s head cool when you are running outdoors, in the sunshine, wearing a black cap that holds the heat. Besides, it matches my orange running shoes and can be seen from a great distance away. So if, in the unlikely event I get crushed by a car, I can at least say I did my part by wearing contrasting clothing and safety gear. Back to the beanie. It is lightweight and, unlike some other caps I own, does not fit so tight it feels like it is trying to squeeze my head in a vice. I wear headphones when I run and with other, tighter fitting caps, the headphones feel as though they are burrowing into my ears. The Tough Headwear fit as expected without being overly tight. It keeps the sweat from running into my eyes and, because of the material, dries fairly quickly helping to keep the noggin cool. It is very lightweight but I think it will also work as a head warmer when the weather turns cooler again. It probably won’t do the job as a winter cap though, which is fine with me. It will be my go-to cap during the summer months as well. I hope this review helps you. Have a great run ... show more

  • Tactical swim cap. Love it.
Color: Black
I love it. It fits snug and I tend to forget im wearing it. Its warm with minimal fabric as I dislike large beanie caps. If only my kids would stop calling it my swim cap.

  • Does exactly what it advertises.... Does exactly what it advertises....
Color: Black
I purchased this cap/beanie for use when running in cooler weather (40's/30's and below...where I live it seldom gets really cold) in place of my regular running hat, largely based on the high number of positive reviews/ratings it has received. My primary reason for purchasing was because I wanted something to cover my ears and keep them warm in addition to my head, especially when it's windy, with the secondary reason being to absorb sweat without overheating me. My thoughts…. Pros: • Size: I have a decently large head (lots of real estate up there) and it stretched to cover it and my ears comfortably without feeling tight or constricting in any way. It might be a little loose if you have a very small head, but I can't say definitively; as it is very stretchy, this may not be a big issue. • Warmth: My initial impression straight out of the packaging was that it was very thin and extremely lightweight, so I was curious how well it would do keeping me warm. No worries there on my first use (mid-30’s with a “feels like” of 30, 7-10 mph winds, 50% humidity, and a light mist) as, when I got outside and started running, I immediately realized how cold the rest of my face felt in comparison to feeling nothing on my head/ears. It performed equally as well on subsequent runs with temperatures ranging anywhere from the coldest being high 20's/30 degrees to the warmest being mid/high-40's and winds ranging all the way up into the mid-double digits, without ever making me feel like I was too warm. I could see it being comfortable in the 50+ degree range as well. • Sweat absorption/moisture wicking: It also performed well in this area. Granted I don’t sweat as much when it’s cold, but still…after a three-mile run it was fairly soaked but my head seemed pretty dry. Additionally, it dries surprisingly quickly (within a few hours). • Odor: Since I usually run 4-5 times a week, I'm not throwing my cap/hat in the washer after every run (though I may rinse them in the sink). However, even after a few runs (including after the first run without rinsing) it had NO noticeable odor that I could tell, which is AMAZING to say the least...and again, it dries so quickly that you could rinse, let it dry, and use it again the next day. Although the product description doesn't make any claims in this area, it passes the test with flying colors. • Construction/Durability: it seems extremely well-made (no noticeable issues with the stitching, etc.). As I've only had it for a few weeks, I can't speak to how well it will hold up over the long run. However, it comes with a lifetime warranty, which is hard to beat. Even if it wears out in a few years, I would gladly repurchase it again based on my initial impressions. Not really a pro or a con, but it does muffle sound a bit (obviously) since it covers your ears. That’s just something to keep in mind depending on your intended use, especially if you are running/biking/riding in or around traffic or other people. Cons: • The only negative so far is an aesthetic one: it doesn’t have a completely smooth look as it appears in most of the pictures. There is a bit of a “bulge” or weird sort of wrinkle on the vertical seams just above the horizontal seam…see my pictures or the one of the woman wearing the dark gray cap in the product listing as it’s easier to see there than in my pictures. Keep in mind that I have a fairly large head, so it’s stretched out to cover it and it’s still not completely smooth. If you have a smaller head, it will likely be more noticeable (like the picture of the gray cap). That doesn’t affect performance at all so I'm not detracting from my rating because of it and also because it's just a personal preference (and a bit nitpicky, but it may matter more to other people). Based on my observations above, in my opinion this product truly deserves the high rating it's getting from customers and it is worth every penny. ... show more

  • Nice skullcap but too snug on my oversized head.
Color: Reversible: Black / Yellow
A bit too snug for my size 8 cranium. I wear it sometimes in the cold, but it compresses my thoughts while keeping my ears warm. Their summer weight helmet liners, however, fit beautifully!
