I have had a giant ebike as a loan from my employer for 1 year. Now when my loan has expired I decided to try out an ebike from Amazon. Assembly: Initially I was skeptical especially because bike shop owners filled the internet with scary posts that mistakes can be fatal. I was pleasantly surprised. The assembly took a while (the manual was unclear, but there is a 6 min video if you Google online which walks through the entire assembly very clearly). I was able to follow that video in about 3 hours (I had to redo the handlebar and front wheel because I didn't understand the instructions; watching the video first, then pausing as you follow along will save time). The rear wheel guard nut was too tight, I couldn't self install. My employer installed it for free, it is only 2 min for him. Riding experience: compared to the giant ebike, this totem ebike accelerates much faster! It also has a electric only mode where you can accelerate by just twisting the throttle on the handlebar, like a Motor bike. It is limited to 20 mph which makes it safe. The acceleration changes from 0 to max pretty rapidly though, which can feel not smooth for some people and exciting for the adventurous. The giant ebike had a much smoother acceleration. I was able to use this as a very convenient replacement for my giant ebike, totally worth the money, especially when the giant ebike costs $2000+ and this is just $400 (including a $99 delivery fee and taxes). If you are concerned about making mistakes in assembly, simply assemble yourself and then take it to the local bike shop for a tune up. They will appreciate your business, and will make you feel safe. Hope that helps. I have read other reviews where folks got the tune up done for just $12. One drawback with this bike (and also with the giant ebike) is the child carts and child seats don't fit on this bike. I need to research some child carts that are safe and compatible with ebikes.

OMGoodness, I bought this e-bike sort of as an experiment - to see if I like it. I do. Very much. Assembly was easy - took me just under and hour and a half. That included cutting three inches off of the seat support shaft (it was a bit too long for my short legs). It’s a very nice entry level unit. As a regular bicycle it pedals well and has a seven-speed gear setup. Get tired pedaling? Push a button and get a little bit of pedaling “help” - or a LOT of pedaling help. Getting rally lazy? Twist a ring on the right handgrip and the motor takes over - for a speed up to 21 mph. With my regular bicycle I usually kept up a 10 mph pace. Today I covered nearly 5 miles at an 11.6 mph average, and a top speed of 20.7 mph. I pedaled most of the way (with assist #2 and #3) and got home refreshed, not tired at all. So far I have 11 miles on the Totem and still have 4 out of five bars on the battery gauge. My experience thus far has the bike doing exactly as advertised. I actually tried to shop local - but couldn't find anything affordable. The $1500 bikes looked about the same as this, but I could almost buy four of these for the same number of dollars.

The media could not be loaded. Long story short - Yeah this bike is surprisingly good. The motor is powerful. The bike itself is constructed really well. The gears are pretty nice as well and honestly just rides well. I bought another bike from someone else and it was slightly more expensive but this one out performs that by miles. I will wholeheartedly recommend this bike if you’re considering it - especially for the price range it’s in. With that said, the only complaints I have is One, the brakes make an incredible squeal every time I use them. And two the gears aren’t exactly aligned perfectly so it might need a tuneup. But yeah, if you’re considering this bike, and if you have something else in comparison, I would recommend this for this price range.

I don't usually write reviews unless I really like something and this bike has delivered above and beyond. What even takes the cake is that the one I received had the upgraded 553w/hr battery And the headlamp just like my blue and black one. I bought this one to have a differentiating color for my wife and it is identical to my black and blue bike. Both bikes are extremely smooth and fun to ride. Definitely brought the joy back into riding a bike again. I still can't get over the value of this bike. I never imagined I could own something this nice and now I do. I now look forward to riding my bike with my wife.

Delivery took almost 4 weeks. Assembling the bike was quite straightforward but the first time I rode the bike, 3 of the rear spokes came off. One of the spokes got tangled up in the derailleur! I filled out the warranty claim form and contacted the Totem Technical Support team only to be told that since I had not purchased the bike from them, they would not be able to help. I then contacted the seller (through Amazon) and when I eventually heard back from them was told that I would have to return the bike and pay for shipping. The seller was not helpful at all and I ended up ordering the parts and fixing it myself. Bottom line, it seems that the warranty is worthless and don't expect any customer support.
