Description

What happens when a master of personal transformation suffers unspeakable loss? After thirty years of battling obesity and struggling with her finances, Elizabeth Benton transformed herself. She lost 150 pounds, eliminated $130,000 of debt, and committed herself to guiding other women through their own transformations. Her inspiring story and methodologies have touched millions of lives. Then, in 2020, her daughter died. Lost and grieving, Elizabeth searched in vain for anything that might help. But the advice she found felt too out of reach. Too hard to put into practice. Instead of giving up, she wrote the book she couldn’t find. No matter what you’re trying to handle—from the most difficult loss to the small, day-to-day grievances that keep us from living our best lives—Tools for the Trenches provides the tools and perspectives you need to transform yourself from the inside out. Full of exercises you can do immediately, with questions at the end of each chapter to help you apply every tool in your own life, Elizabeth Benton’s Tools for the Trenches is the self-help book that can actually change your life—starting now. • WARNING: THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
If you want it to. If you allow it to. It is evident from the very first chapter of “Tools for The Trenches” that, when it comes to navigating a dark season of life, Elizabeth Benton Thompson has traveled that path and knows whereof she speaks Born in a crucible of unimaginable pain and suffering, this book, and the strategies within, can transform your life. However, it should be emphasized that, although she openly shares the details about her personal tragedy, this book is actually about living your best life and helping yourself through any kind of tough time. As suggested by the title, this book is a virtual toolbox, and just like a physical toolbox, it is not designed to be read and placed upon a shelf. The tools must be used; and the more that you use them, the more adept you become in finding the answers that dwell within you. (Which, by the way, is the place where they truly exist.) The book is rife with concrete and practical real-life examples and after each tool Elizabeth has provided targeted questions which make excellent journal prompts. Therefore, to get the most value from the book I strongly recommend that you keep it nearby, arm yourself with a pen, highlighter, and journal and reach for it when you need guidance in finding answers, making decisions, or taking action. You may soon find that it has become critical step in your decision-making process. It is truly a gift to yourself that will keep on giving. And you deserve it. ... show more

  • Terrific
This book helped during a dark time of grief and depression. Having experienced pregnancy loss, I felt for Elizabeth as she recovered from losing Dagny. I’m so grateful she had the wherewithal to right this text. Much appreciated.

  • Mind Your Mindset
Beautifully written and bravely shared, Tools For The Trenches is so much more than a book to be read. It's a roadmap to healing, a bright light, and a compass to help you find the way. Filled with thought provoking questions for personal examination, and new perspectives for you to consider, the "In Practice" section at the end of each chapter is particularly useful. The chapter titled "Underthinking" was especially helpful to this self proclaimed overthinker. Elizabeth Benton Thompson states "There are dozens, maybe even hundreds, of options that exist between all and nothing. Underthinking is considering only the two most extreme or familiar options."... "The goal isn't to find the right perspective. The goal is to invite more perspectives." If you are seeking personal transformation, navigating change, grieving loss, or anywhere in between, this book is a must read. I highly recommend Tools For The Trenches. ... show more

  • New ways to frame even the most difficult circumstances
Invaluable mindset work and a tremendous perspective shift. Weaving her poignant journey of unspeakable loss throughout the pages, Elizabeth Benson Thompson walks readers through a comprehensive guide to clarify goals, identify weaknesses and move forward in a transformed life. Elizabeth, in a style familiar to listeners of her podcast, offers a series of manageable deep-dives into topics like limitations, overwhelm and reactions followed by practical questions for immediate self-reflection. The structure of this book allows readers to study and apply the tools in a personalized way at the reader’s own pace and in an order based on the reader’s own priorities. Elizabeth wrote her story from the deepest of trenches, but this book is not useful only as a path for working through grief. Any reader seeking personal improvement and self-discovery will benefit from the mindset tools Elizabeth has crafted. ... show more

  • So useful and practical! A great tool in this book
I’m only a quarter of the way into this book and I’m looking forward to reading it a second time. Elizabeth is an amazing story teller and hearing her share her own experiences, whether you can relate to the specifics or not, she has a way of drawing you in and making you understand her reasons for sharing. If she can use these very practical tools and tips to get through the unthinkable, any of us can apply them to various challenges we may be facing or struggling with. Her section at the end of each chapter filled with “in practice” ideas and questions are just what I needed to get my own mind going to apply the learnings. Thank you EB for sharing your story and putting out such an amazing tool for the rest of us. ... show more

  • Honestly… Life Altering
Usually I don’t leave reviews, but honestly I can’t even help myself. This book is everything I didn’t even know I needed. I didn’t know how much I was struggling to get by every day. I didn’t know how much I was struggling to find ways to just “cope”. To say this book is life changing doesn’t even cut it. My life has been altered. My inner monologue has been altered. It helped me to take my own strength and apply it consistently- and that has made the ENTIRE difference to help me find the shovel to stop digging myself a hole- and to start filling a hole and building a mountain of progress. Thank you, Elizabeth. And thank you, Dagny. ... show more

  • Beautiful and Powerful Tool for Change
Elizabeth’s courage and vulnerability in showing how she has navigated grief while taking care of herself and striving for a future that honors her daughter’s legacy is beautiful. This book isn’t just for navigating major losses, but also the times where you need to think outside of your circumstances to stay true to your life goals. Each chapter is a stand-alone tool that offers the reader a new way to approach and think about perceived obstacles. Exercises at the end of each chapter help you to apply the tools to your own life and problems. This book is a tool that I will use repeatedly when I need a mindset shift. ... show more

  • Tools
I Lked some of the tools, but TM is not a tool for me. The Bible is my toolbox and Jesus is the only way to heaven.
