There are no words for this cologne/perfume... Such an exquisitely sophisticated, dark (with floral undertones obviously), intense (yet paradoxically subtle), mysterious and alluring, UNIVERSAL scent perfect for BOTH MEN & WOMEN. Very unique fragrance, I would compare it to "Tom Ford's version of Chanel No. 5" yet it actually smells good/not like old ladies. At this pricepoint (about $95-100) for a 3.4 fl.oz. bottle SOLD BY AMAZON.COM AS THE SELLER so its authenticity is guaranteed, I would say run don't walk to buy this fragrance (retails @ Macy's for $168). I am a male in my 20s, and first learned that Tom Ford Black Orchid is actually manufactured as a unisex fragrance during a trip to Sephora. I consider myself a cologne connoisseur - some of my favorites include Gucci Guilty, Angel Man by Thierry Mugler, D&G Light Blue, Bleu de Chanel, Tom Ford Noir, and good old Armani Code. That being said I was VERY reserved about buying this "unisex" cologne with fear it would smell too feminine... However, I love it! Initially has a very floral smell (could see why it would fit feminine). But after an hour, it breaks down into a dark, sweet-smelling scent that really captivates attention, yet is subtle enough for daytime wear. My conservative mom's first reaction to it: "Wow! I love that. It's very sweet smelling, but so clean! You should wear that to work" (I'm a financial advisor in a comm. bank setting). Love that it's EAU DE PARFUM instead of toilette, because the second I think the scent is fading out on me, a brisk walk around the office (body temperature raises) & the smell comes right back. Truly lasts all day (I use 3 sprays: front of neck, back of neck, once on wrist and rub them together). As I've said it before, I consider it more of a DAYTIME SCENT. It is light and not overpowering, yet the dark/mysterious scent would work for night time as well (I just prefer something more "daring" in the evening). FINAL VERDICT: YES! Would I expect it to be a favorite among blue collar men/Larry the Cable Guy types? No. Truly appropriate though for daily wear by a sophisticated gentleman. ... show more

The first time I smelled this fragrance, I felt like I was transported to a Christmas party with a fireplace crackling in the back and warm lights suspended on the ceiling and acorns/pinecones scattered on the table and everyone was wearing cashmere sweaters. It smells like Christmas to me, particularly the woody smell. It smells rich (not rich just in potency but in wealth) and strong. I’d say it’s a nighttime smell but I wear it all day bc I like getting a whiff of it throughout the day when I move. It lasts very long. If I spray it on my clothes, I still smell it on the clothes a few days later. This was a blind buy for me & wow did it exceed expectations. I am a woman but I can see how it’s unisex bc of the musk smell. There’s a real unisex version that’s bottled in gold and I’m tempted to try to one as well. ... show more

As someone who loves many TF fragrances, I was excited to find this wonderful deal on Amazon. I compared my bottle to a friend's (who purchased directly from TF) and I believe my bottle was 100% authentic. Like many TF fragrances, this scent is heavy and lasts alllll day. One spray or maybe two if you're feeling bold. I'd say this fragrance is relatively unisex but could be too sweet for some men. As others have noted, this fragrance really relies upon your body chemistry to smell right. On the wrong person it can smell downright putrid. I actually experienced this on myself one time and finally understood what everyone was talking about. I noticed that this issue does not happen if you spray the fragrance a few inches away from your skin as opposed to directly on it. ... show more
