There are certain laboratory techniques that feel almost magical the first time you use them. Thin Layer Chromatography is one of them. You place a tiny spot at the bottom of the plate, let the solvent work its way upward, and suddenly what looked like a single material starts revealing that it was several different things all along. It’s one of those moments where chemistry becomes visible. These plates are glass-backed silica gel GF254 plates with a fluorescent indicator, and they performed exactly as I expected. The coating appears uniform, the plates are cleanly cut, and the fluorescent backing makes visualization under UV straightforward. The 25 x 75 mm size is convenient for small-scale analytical work, method development, reaction monitoring, and the sort of exploratory testing that answers the question: “What’s actually in here?” The glass backing provides a more rigid and durable surface than some alternatives, and the pack size is generous enough that you won’t hesitate to use them when curiosity strikes. These are solid little TLC plates for quick separation work. The 25 x 75 mm size is easy to handle and works well when you don’t need a full plate. The silica layer appears evenly coated, and spots develop cleanly without excessive streaking or diffusion. I was able to get clear separation on simple mixtures without much adjustment. The GF254 indicator quenches cleanly under 254 nm UV, making spots easy to locate without additional staining. The glass backing keeps everything flat and stable, which helps with consistent spotting. They also score and cut without much trouble if you want to run smaller strips. Overall, they perform reliably and are easy to work with for routine TLC.
